NT or AT Coin Auction 2630 Teletrade lot 1846 tonight. I think it was fumbled by PCGS

Teletade auction 2630 lot 1846. NT or AT?

I think PCGS dropped the ball on this one. Looks like some kid had fun with their watercolors and then threw this coin into daddy BBQ grill out of the back porch so they wouldn't get a whoopin.. image

It does look phishy. Maybe it was treated while it was still in the holder.

Do the colors move when the holder is shaken?

Looks like the holder sprung a leak or something.

You really don't think PCGS actually looks at these bulk bullion submissions do you? image

I'm pretty sure there all sorts of things you can dip a coin in...where the coin would turn in the holder after grading over time...but during grading, you would not see it.

Sort of a delayed (more accurately, slow) reaction.

I've been critical elsewhere (the 1805/4 50c thread) about PCGS, but fairness prompts me to say that this is post-slabbing damage. Holders are neither air-tight nor water-tight, and this slab was submerged in something nasty. Teletrade is the culprit here, for listing a piece of junk to make a buck, not PCGS.

In the case of this coin, the toning is obviously ugly and will likely detract from the value. So, would pcgs be under any obligation to buy it back if it is AT?

This just looks like bullion to me, including the milk spots.

I have to agree with you again CGC!

Looks to me it was toned through the holder and if I was PCGS, I would forget about buying this one back.

I'm not sure which one I'd dislike more.
    They look similar.

Hey there, "It's just Bullion Crowd". You're not gonna get any argument from me on this one. I would also guess the coin did not look like that when holdered. --Jerry
