I was going to say 53, but I'll bump it up to 55 because of the color.

I will take a stab at it and say MS61. A bit of the typical weak New Orleans strike probably accounts for what looks like wear. The eye appeal would suggest a higher grade but the hits in front of the eyes are problematic and PCGS doesn't like that in that area of the coin more so then some of the other TPG's.

    Be curios to find out.

AU-50 technically, wouldn't surprise me to see this "market graded" to 55 as a pop for the color.

While Mark's photos are beyond good, I always have a great deal of trouble grading from them as I have a tough time judging luster on them.

That disclaimer aside, the coin appears to have high-point wear on both sides, and some luster imparement in the fields. AU 55 is my grade.

I'll throw out AU-58. I agree with the 53/55 crowd, but I give it a bump to 58 because of the typical New Orleans striking issues.

attractive coin, I say AU 50 maybe 53 on a stretch...too much wear for 55 or 58, imho. 1892 barber halfs were known for there cartwheel luster that certainly would be more visable in a higher grade.

Doh! and double doh! i guess it helps to read the description clearly image

with the New Orleans mint and the fact that it's a quarter I change my grade to AU 55

    Actual grade: PCGS AU53

Congrats to STONE for nailing it within a minute!

I bought this coin from Bruce Braga about a year ago at Long Beach for a bit north
of double sheet (hey, sometimes humans behave irrationally... image). The luster is flat
on the areas of the obverse that appear darker, but fortunately, it's very strong on
the reverse fields, which gives the color some vibrancy. I enjoy this coin. Hope you
    did, too.
