So, since Moy will likely be replaced as Mint Director

Do you think he has done a good job or not?

I am not that impressed by what he has done, personally.

He has added visibility to the mint and the mint director's job. I am not sure what the politics are behind the job, but I would not mind if he stayed.

Seemed like he was just starting to cut some of the coin "fat."

I think the director has been making many positive changes – the kinds of things that are not evident for a period of time. Regardless of politics, he deserves an opportunity to bring his reforms to completion.

Wasn't he one who helped create the same fat he is now cutting?

  • I will not be sorry to see him go, if he goes. Too much emphasis on quantity over quality/artistry.

Without Moy we would have never seen the high relief $20. I hope it gets out before he is replace or we will never see it.

Are you sure about that? Or, is it like saying "without Eli Whitney, the cotton mill would never have been invented"?
It may have come about, or it may not have.....all we know is that he did it.

The delay inherent in implementing changes, means that some of the things collectors have been complaining about were the products of Dir. Fore’s administration. I do not know, however, the extent to which Dir Fore or the Marketing & Sales Dept. influenced things.

More recently, what I have observed during visits to mint HQ is that Dir. Moy has been working to bring new creative vitality to the organization – a massive task considering the inertia, burden of previous decisions and Congressional demands. I think it would be beneficial to all to maintain Dir. Moy in office at least until the end of his term.

Our new leader seems to ask his fellow human beings to interject their thoughts. With an open door policy like that, some changes may not be necessary at all. Time will tell.

I think he'll stay. He appears to be interestedd in the collector and at the same time streamlining the product line.

Next director needs to clean those spots off the new Lincolns.

    Destroys their collectability.

Okay, maybe never was too strong a word. There is still a chance it will go away with the planchet issues.

I think he actually has done a good job. Regarding the massive number of products the Mint has had
recently, yes, it was largely his doing I believe. But at the same time, at least he realized it wasn't
working (i.e. profitable) and is changing course.

I do not remember a Mint Director being as visible as Moy has been. Specifically the 50 state quarters
introductions and his meetings with collectors about their thoughts. I don't believe any change is needed
at the top of the Mint as I think he is just hitting his stride and comfort level.

    Just my thoughts.

This article should give you a better picture of the Director.

His 5 year term began September 5, 2006.

Maybe they should outsource their janitorial service ? image

That's a great post, by the way.
