What guide to get?

My dad has bunch of silver coins (~$200 face) that we collected back in the early 90s. Mostly stuff used to fill out whitman folders. Before we sell for silver value, we want to go through it all and verify if there is anything that has numismatic value. What book/guide should we buy? Redbook? Bluebook? Or some other guide?

thanks

For a more accurate and up to date price referrence search the recently closed eBay auctions and take note of the hammer prices.

....the red book would help you a lot. if you have any morgan or peace dollars then this site will help you look for VAMS.

    worth a look

ebay history shows what people ARE paying not what they should pay. Click on ebay advanced search, type in coin info in search box, check "completed items" and give it a go. Once you determine current market value you might try selling them at this site but in the "Buy Sell and Trade" forum. It's free and it gives a lot of good people first shot at them. Best of luck.

Ebay can in no way be recommmended for pricing information. The coins offered may not even exist, may not be real, or the buyers may
not THINK they are real or peoperly graded and bit only a fraction of their true value. Check numismedia.com

The Redbook contains retail pricing (and a tad high), the Greysheet contains dealer bidask prices (subscriptioj) and is usually fairly current. Coin shows are good for pricing... if you know grading etc.. if you are new and not trained in grading or authentication, I would recommend getting a respected dealer involved in the assessment. Cheers, RickO
