Sacramento Coin Show
I went to the Sac show today and must say am rather pleased! I'm not much of a reporter so I'll leave that to someone else but when I arrived at around 11:00, the place was hopping! Every table was full along with the aisle's!
My first trip around found a $1,000 bag of circulated IKE's to paw through and that took me nearly 2 hours. I picked up 6 FEV's (Friendly Eagle Variety-RDV-006) but none would grade very high at all. A couple had some scratches which would prevent grading but for a $1.45 each, I just couldn't resist.
In that bag I also picked up some very nice low ball candidates and if you've ever tried to locate a gradeable circulated IKE, you'll understand how difficult it can be since they just were not used at all! There are plenty of AU coins available but XF and lower are really tough to find!
Also found a couple of sintered planchet IKE's which, when I get rich, I'll get graded.
The highlight of my day was in finding some 1971-S/S Business Strikes! Woo Hoo! Unfortunately, none of these will end up with a very high grade. No matter though, the coins are just cool! (And hard to spot!)
For anybody thats thinking about going but just cannot decide whether or not to hit the road, my advice is to go ahead and take the drive. With 40+ tables to choose from, you won't be disappointed.
BTW, I ran into blue62vette (after stopping by a dozen or so tables and simply stating "blue62vette?"), MustangGT, and ZeeBob! I'm sure there were more forum members there but we gotta come up with a method of identifying ourselves! I'm thinking of getting an emboridery on a shirt that just says "19Lyds" for me and "Wife of 19Lyds" for my sweetie!

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Was there a lot of gold and silver bullion available? If so I'm guessing prices were high?

My wife enters sweeps for her hobby. A lot of all sweepstakes are won by so called professional "sweepers" A lot of times they will wear a red ribbon on trips or sporting events so that they can spot each other. I do not want to wear a red ribbon it should not be difficult to come up with some way to identify other forum members at a show. If some thing like that was done it would make it easy to avoid Longacre

Still I had a great time and wish I could have spent more time there. They are also having a 1-day show on Dec. 7th and I will try to be there.
PS. Anyone of you guys coming to the Chico show? I will be there, wondering if you guys make it out there?

<< <i>19lyds, the Chico show is sometime in December. Let me double check. Chico is 1 hr-1.5 hr north of Sac. Past Yuba City, past Live Oak, past Gridley. >>

Confirm the dates and maybe some of us can carpool!
I'll even take a bath before we go!

I found a bit of silver and gold around but mostly it was priced pretty high.
I think the lowest I price box of circulated Morgans I saw $18/coin. There were some peace dollars mixed in as I remember.
There were a few AU $20 gold pieces around (sort of like bullion). I saw two sell. One for $1000 (1925 AU in PCGS) and the other $1050 (1901-S AU in PCGS).
We had a new addition to the show this year - Charmy Harker owner of www.thepennylady.com. She only had copper. She had some nice pieces available - both raw and certified. I saw my first MPL in her cases - she had five or six. Very nice.
There were more ancients around this year than the last two.
The usual few tables of world coins were there. I wish Fragner and Fragner would stop using PVC rich flips, maybe then I could buy something from then again. I like world coins and F&F have a good selection.
There was a little bit of something for everyone at the Sac show this year. There were some nice type coins available and some good deals to be had. I saw a bunch of people bringing in their coins to sell to dealers, seemed like more than usual, but probably wasn't. I did notice that there were a number of folks that were bringing coins in to sell to dealers and then were turning around and buying more expensive coins to upgrade their collections. That seemed a good sign.
I thought traffic was good, though being in the backl makes it obvious that not all traffic makes it all the way to the back. There seemed to be more people than the April show and they stayed later. Most dealers seemed pleased with sales. No comments about having a horrible show at our dealer dinner Friday night. I think sales were slower on Sat.
Met several forum members including: zeebob, 19lyds, stephunter and hotfootspin. All freindly and nice. This show appears to become a travel stop top Santa Clara which is good to bring in some not so local dealers as fresh faces are nice.
I really notice without signage and a specialty out table traffic is much lighter. Need to get a sign going forward. It is very interesting to see how many people look up for a sign before down at a case. My dad mentioned this to me late Friday and I really noticed it on Sat.
On a buying perspective personally I held off mroe waiting for Santa Clara. Times have become tougher in my day job so I am more hesitant to buy. Picked up a DMPL, a Peace Vam I think that was it. Oh and aluminum light clamps to make the next show easier.
All in all a good time as always. Glad it is local though, I dont see how the dealers who travel do it.
Dec 14 from 10-5. Its a sunday and will be at the Chico Masonic Lodge
