5 GREAT reasons to come home from college for the weekend... Close-Ups added
More to come later, as i'm just now taking some pics, but here's a little sneak peak. This will unfortunately be the last of our newps for the year.
But i'm alright with that!
The 1875-cc twenty cent peice completes that year for us (we have the 1875-p and 1875-s). The 1851 was the last key date we needed for our seated dollar set. Some nice dates to pick up for sure!

<< <i>I think we need some closeups on that 1851 - congrats! >>
I'm working on it, i'll try to have them done by tomorrow night but thought a nice teaser was do. BTW, the reverse blows the obverse out of the water on the 1851 imho. Also, the 1870 and 1871 have some cool (albeit small) die cracks on the reverse, not a common sight on the seated dollars.

The seated dollar set isn't an UNC one, but with the exception of the 73-cc it's either UNC or AU and is coming together much better and quicker than I would have ever thought possible a few years ago. Also, the 1871 is our first Legend coin which is kind of cool since I've gotten to know Bruce a little through this forum.

It better not be! Actually, many of the 1851s were struck after the dies were polished to remove clashing and thus appear prooflike, this one is no exception. You can tell it's an 'original' and not a restrike by the location of the date being high.
<< <i>Nice coins! The holders are kinda blah looking

"but with the exception of the 73-cc it's either UNC or AU" -- The 73-cc is a nice looking XF-40, all the others are unc or AU. And I wish that a decent 1851 could be got for price guides... ours wasn't at any of the sheets levels. But after passing on 8-10 of the slabbed coins in the grades we were looking at, when this one came along we had to pick it up even for a premium. THE 1851 JUST DOESN'T COME NICE NOR ACCURATELY GRADED most of the time!

The Feldini coin is the one below, we got it earlier this summer and it is a WOWzer coin as well!
(showing off it's PL characteristics...)
Tell me this, why does one of the slabs have a sticker? What does the sticker mean?
Many members on this forum that now it cannot fit in my signature. Please ask for entire list.

Who knows and Who cares?
I saw a coin i liked and made the dealer an offer. They saw an offer they liked and handed the happy collector the coin.
Yes the 51.....that would fit in real well with my "Coins ending with 51" collection.

<< <i>there's something about that seated dollar series that's always attracted me, it's always been special. how'd you guys land on it, and what else do you focus on?

AlpineNumismatics.com has been one of the dealers we've bought and sold quite a bit of stuff with, and they just happened to get a large set of seated dollars in. Somebody was trying to buy the set intact, but negotiations broke down and we were able to snag the 1851 along with the three phillys from the 70's.
As for the 70s, well, unless there is a very fortunate lottery drawing somewhere down the road, or TDN does one helluva giveaway to upstage SaintGuru's, it's probably not going to be in our set...

Sorry......I would have responded to this thread sooner had I seen it before today. I was aware of the Seated dollars that you picked up from Alpine - and if finances were not a factor for me - the 1851 LSD would probably have been at the top of my list too. An absolutely beautiful coin, and certainly a showcase piece for you're collection......congratulations. BTW, I also loved the other "P" mint LSD's that you picked up. Keep up the good work, you're set is coming along very nicely.

Thanks for the comments, I almost forgot about this post lol
Congrats on your Newps. That 1851 is amazing, and the others are not too shabby either
Hmmmm, I wonder, if I picked up a Seated Dollar, would I start a whole NEW addiction like I have now with my CBHs?
I think I will stick with my busties for now as I don't think I can EVER compete with you at the Seated Dollar level.
Congrats again Mark on those VERY eye appealing new additons to your set.

Ya he is, RIP.
Hoard the keys.
I didn't really know him too well. Last night I had to rely on my encyclopedic PM history for memories. I found we had exchanged 22 PMs back in the spring of 2008. The topic of the discussion was the Dansco 7070-style type set, and I do think Seated coins came up several times.
