Thank you Marty, this is a Mass Quarter struck on scrap but I think it was a die cap that broke.

You can see MASS on the reverse (showing) as well as the outline of the man. Plus it is certified as a MASS.

very cool erroroncoins. I looked very closely at the 1st pic and I barely saw that MASS.

Tell me this, what is the most expensive or most rare error? Can you post a pic?

That would be a question for Fred W or Mike B .... way out of my league

BTW here's the obverse of the MASS .....

  • Very nice coins or shall I say pieces of coins. I am wondering where in the world would someone like me or just joe collector find ones like these? Would we have to search roll after roll ( which it seems impossible to put that second one in a roll) or are they taken from the mint illegally and sold in the blackmarket to grading companies and we are stuck paying a very high premium? Oh yeah nice coins again.

Thank you! You will not find these types of errors, you will have to go to a dealer.

Here is a major state quarter error that would be possible to find in rolls, very rare, but possible......

Yes, it is called "Missing Reverse Clad Layer" Error

Here is another that could be found in a roll, altho even more rare than the above one. In fact, it is the only one that I have seen on a State Quarter, here you go, a "Stuck in Wire" error .....

These are very cool to see. Please post more. I've got nothing to contribute to the post, other then that I enjoy seeing them. The closest I have to an error is a New Jersey where someone melted off the outer layer with a blowtorch. And, that, obviously, is not an error.

You asked so here's another... and one you could find in a roll if you are extremely lucky ...... a very rare DE quarter struck on a nickel planchet, which is an off metal error and quite rare .......

erroroncoins, were you lucky enough to find a few of these in rolls???

Whats the chances? Lets say I buy a 1000 dollar roll. Do you think I might find at least 1 error that is worth some money??

I don't have a photo, but my son found a state quarter about 25% off center. I received it in change.

No, I buy from dealers. No idea of chances but I'd say chances are you will never find a major sate quarter error in a roll. But someone will, kinda like the lottery.

You can find many minor errors on state quarters however. I have found many minor nickel error in rolls, but have I searched a ton. I resell these, build up my paypal account, and then blow it all on a major error image

You want more, I need more time to image some coins.... it will be worth the wait however

Wow, you hit the lottery. Very rare find. Which State? 1999 and 2000 are way more common than later dates.

    Awesome!

Thank you, This is a mint error. Many clips such as this have metal flow, that is, part of the design/letters want to flow toward the clip and clearly seen under magnification. Other clips have the blakesley effect, (this one does not) which happens opposite the clip. This one is Certified by PCGS. Clips are underpriced IMO because people think that they can easily be faked, which they can not be. This is about a hundred dollar coin.

Ah I see. $100, wow Pretty reasonable really. I was assuming a few bills for something like that. I take it errors like that are no so rare given the relatively small price? I don't really collect coins, If something catches my eye I pick it up so forgive me for this question but what's the difference between broad struck and offset? Seem to be similar to me.
    Its all relative

mkman ..... not quite sure what your talking about. Do you mean something like a dime or dime planchet falling on top of a quarter planchet and then struck by the dies. I have never seen it on SHQ's. I have seen a few examples of this type of error, but these are one of the rarest error types and extremely expensive.

cars ..... Yes clips are not as expensive as other errors coins, they are more common and like I said people think that they can be faked but they can not be.

A broadstruck coin is larger than a normal coin and all of the design is there. Broadstruck coins have no reeding as they are struck without the collar in place. An Off Center error is just that and has some of the design missing.

No I do not. I wish. I do have many non state quarters struck on dime planchets which are off metal errors, but that would be another thread (off metal errors) and I'm too tired to start that one now.
