No "O" either!
Here is mine ANACS AU53
I always wondered why the mint put the O in that location. I like where it is. Just curious as to their thought process. Anyone out there know ?

Contemporary counterfeit 3 cent silver coins are very collectable. Do you still have it? Can you post a pic?
I'll bet it was an 1861.

Yeah, I think the MM position is kind of cool. wonder what the mint people were thinking about when faced with the question as to where to punch it.

Nice coin.

Every Dansco 7070 should have one of these type coins in it.
I like yours.

That True View pic has given me new hope in starting this set.
<< <i>Just got an 1851-O myself off the BST. PCGS MS62. Always wanted one of these as I thought it was cool that is is the only mintmarked three cent piece and the location of the mintmark is cool too!!! Now it's mine!!
How about some updated photos of this one... I'm getting better, but still have some room for improvement I think!

Even without the magical mintmark, I would like that piece a lot. I've never had the O-mint coin.
I wonder if the supersoft strike on the reverse happened a lot on the branch mint issues?
The AU53 that 1946Hamm posted is a beauty.
Speaking of trimes (without mintmarks), I just got these back in a PCGS submission not long ago. I was hoping for VF+ to XF grades on them, not being really secure in my grading experience with this series (at least the Type 1s). The first coin came back AU55 and the second AU53, which of course pleased me very much, especially as I had "stolen" these two and one other for ten bucks apiece, locally.

Love the circulation on the central star, and the two-tone of the reverse device.
