mkman123mkman123 Posts: 6,849 ✭✭✭✭
guys, check this out. What do you think??? Worth it or what????

"Very Rare Original Bank Roll of Morgan Silver Dollars from the Bank of New Orleans, Now known as the Bank of NO. The original wrap of the Silver dollars is in great shape and has the writing printed "Greater New Orleans Homestead $10.00 Dollars" The Silver dollars are all from the New Orleans Mint and have the "O" minted on the back or reverse side. There are 10 coin in th eshort stack and one end has a date of 1895. So we know that one end is an 1895 O. There were very few of these minted putting the coin as a rare status per numismatics I believe. The othe rend is a tail with an "O" shhowing on the reverse(tail). All Coins in these wraps are UNC/BU. This is an opportunity that should be considered because the one coin 1895 O is valued at $2200 per PCGS Pricing guide at PCGS.com. These are the world's leading experts on values and prices of US Coins. So given this reliable information, this is what I am asking for the complete roll of 10 silver dollars. You have little risk if no 0 risk in this investment. The other dates are unknown, but you know that the remaining 9 silver dollars are all UNC/BU and have the "0" or New Orleans mint mark on the tail/reverse side or back side. This rolls has the potential to be big bucks. This was purchased last year at an estate sale in New Orleans where we bought 50 rolls of various denominations from this specific bank and estate auction. Great opportunity to own a very rare coin, but also the original bank wrap has great value also."

the only thing is the fact that the top coin doesn't look UNC/BU like this person stated.

what is the possible latest age for such an item? 1960s?
As in when it was wrapped?

Buying OBW rolls without realizing that what is being hyped may not be true is a very risky deal.

Once you open the roll and realize you've been duped, you have no recourse at all as the roll was sold as "unopened".

I have no doubt that this short roll has been professionally rolled but by whome and when os the real question. Provate coin rolling has occured in the past and cintinues even today and IMO, this ovvering is a HUGE risk which I personally would not take.

But maybe you guys can educate me: without looking at the sellers description and just looking at the pics, what tips you off?

If it was an original roll, wouldn't the ends be folded? Rolled ends are too recent for Morgan rolls.

If the roll is really unopened the seller doesn't know if they're all O Mints or what. Just because they came from a Bank in Orleans doesn't mean they came fron a Mint in Orleans. They could be whatever loose coins the bank had laying around in their drawers, any grade, any Mint.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

The paper is intriguing, but the roll is being presented as a "very rare original bank roll" which means absolutely nothing. As you point out, the end coin looks nothing close to BU, and the seller neglects to show the other end of the roll. The pictures aren't that great, either.

The seller doesn't know that the roll is very rare since he alledgedly hasn't seen the coins inside. Further, he is quoting PCGS values, when he has no basis in doing so, since the coins are "unknown".

This roll might well have been wrapped in 1960, but the seller is being a slippery scumbag.

    RFR! (Run, Forrest, Run!)

Ever try to unroll and re-roll an older rolled end roll? Not too hard, actually. Coins will be junk box material at best, Ikes at worst.
  • ANYBODY ? Know where you can _still buy the paper wrappers that'll fit Morgans ¿

Would be kinda cool to have a bag of 1,000 all wrapped up stashed away..

    Scam.
    When in doubt, don't.
  • Ask yourself the question. Why doesn't the seller just open the roll, and sell the coins individually?

If it had all the dreams that you have, wouldn't the present ownerhave the same dreams? He'd open it get the riches within. As somebody said earlier, two silver dollars with some common Ikes in between.
