I won a few type coins on Friday. I bid on 5 coins and won 3. Bids were strong on the coins that I was interested in and you had to bid "full retail" to win. I thought I would be outbid on most coins, so i ended up buying more than I planed on, but that's okay too.
I won a 1875 NGC proof 64 shield nickel today. I also bid in the live auction on the 1875 PCGS proof 64 shield nickel and it said my bid was sent BUT I DID NOT WIN it even though i bid higher than the winning bid!!!!! Not sure what happened there but i will survive. Prices were what i expected and no fire sale.
Mark NGC registry V-Nickel proof #6!!!! working on proof shield nickels # 8 with a bullet!!!!
The material I followed did not meet reserve, or sold for weak prices. There was a 'house' coin which which was nice, but imo too richly priced, so I didn't bid on it.
"Vou invadir o Nordeste, "Seu cabra da peste, "Sou Mangueira......."
1867 $2.50 NGC XF 40. PCGS Population of 23 in all grades (just 30 at NGC). These coins don't show up at auction very often. I was glad to get this one.
<< <i>Looking at the closed vams they went pretty cheap in some cases. Now there are a few I wish I bid on. >>
I watched the Morgans on HA Live from start to finish, and after I saw a couple go for stupid bargain money I poised my finger above the "BID" button for all of the rest, and I think it really paid off.
I used to be somebody, now I'm just a coin collector. Recipient of the coveted "You Suck" award, April 2009 for cherrypicking a 1833 CBHD LM-5, and April 2022 for a 1835 LM-12, and again in Aug 2012 for picking off a 1952 FS-902.
<< <i>I got 6 Morgan VAMs in PCGS holders that are already attributed, for less than I expected in every case. >>
Well Dennis, you finally bought some coins from me. All my vams that were in my ebay store were sold at Heritage last night. Almost 100 of them in PCGS attributed holders, no reserve. Thanks for the bids! They could not have found a better home. I was a bit dissapointed at the totals overall, but when I consigned them several months ago, I did not realize the economy and stock market were going to tank this low. I guess my timing left a bit to be desired. Luckily, my higher end vams sold at the last Long Beach Heritage signature auction. Those did a bit better.
I saw the 1919-D 25c in St. Louis a couple week's ago and thought it was fabulous example. I'm showing it was unreserved and hammered for $3,000 so I don't know what you're so confused about. I'd also like to know what basis you have to say its a "gamble to place a legitimate bid." I have no idea how many hundreds of thousands of items they've sold and never before heard someone question the integrity of their book.

I then cancelled my proxy bid and saw yesterday the hammer price without juice was less then 3000$ ???
there is so much crap going on at Heritage it's a gamble to even make a legitimate bid
<< <i>i put a proxy live bid on the 1919-D PCGS AU58 F.H. quarter @3450$........ high bid was 3200$ when I did so as the auction started ............

I was tracking that one but wasn't bidding the head just didn't have enough brow definition.
I also liked the $10 1911-D OGH AU50 a great looking coin for the grade... yet not worth $2500 in a bidding war.
