Stupid snake bit me....
Note the fang marks, swelling and discoloration....
Fortunately it was a "dry" bite.
In honor of this, post a picture of a coin with a snake on it.

yeow!
Had to go to the dark side for this one.
<< <i>Just saw a two foot garter snake in the side yard while crossing between buildings at work, no pics (and no bite marks) though. >>
Our back yard has a lot of "Texas blind snakes." I'd never heard of them until I looked 'em up. They look like oversized worms, maybe 6 to 8 inches long, aren't capable of biting humans, and their favorite foods are ants and termites -- so I think I'll let them be...

I hope you took care of it! You know a snake bite can be very traumatic. You must pick up the poor creature, and make sure he is not overly stressed.
You folks have some wonderful coins. I envy you, in a good way

Is there any contemporary documentation that this is a worm rather than a snake? It looks too big in relation to the birds to be a worm and a snake would make more sense.

I'd post my snake photos if I knew how. Can anyone explain to me how to post photos directly from my computer? I don't use a hosting service like PhotoBucket.

The snake is on the other side of the hedge from the worm, and this is well-documented.
On here make sure your pics are 50K max............then upload them here

Cottonmouth, thank goodness it was a dry bite. Although the snake probably would have died of an infection after biting me (I dispatched the snake with the power lawnmower)

WHOA, You are dang lucky, cottonmouths are bad tempered and usually aggressive. I'd not expect a dry bite from an animal with at reputation.
Most definately fortunate circimstances for you.

What can you tell us about it.

<< <i>Geographic Range of the Cottonmouth. >>
Sometimes snakes don't stay where the map says they should. I've seen more than one in central Kansas. Anybody here golf
on Saint Andrews west of KC would be able to confirm. I guess they didn't know that that was not part of their range.

<< <i>I believe that cottonmouths are in Texas near the eastern border.
Oh no, I can assure you that there are plenty of them in N. Central TX, namely, Grapevine Lake. Several people have been killed in that lake over the years by 'intruding' into a nest of them in the water.
Copperheads are also very indiginous to the area.
