Picked off a cherry today.

Made a quick stop at a B&M coming back from court. Looked through display cases and looked through proof and SMS sets.
Found a 1967 SMS set with a seriously hazed over half. However, looking through the haze I saw thickly frosted devices and promising mirrors. So I paid $10.00 for the set.
Can not wait to get home after work and remove the haze to see what lies underneath. My suspicions are a lovely Cameo or maybe even DCAM half, hopefully without any hairlines or other detractions. If so, my $10.00 was well spent.
Anyone interested in the quarter, dime, nickel and cent? I wouold sell them to you for $4.00

10 times face for clad
Consider my offer made in jest.
Unless of course you really, really like run of the mill, non cameo SMS minors.
Check to see if it is a dot head.
Edited to say: I love going to coin shops when I'm coming home from court or at lunch. I feel like I get a little more respect when I'm in the "power suit". It's the same wallet at the coin show while I'm wearing jeans, but not the same dealer response.

I do agree with the others, if you can post before and after pics that would be great!
Edited to add, perhaps I am spending too much time on the PM forum.
A dealer gave me some solution years ago that he uses to remove haze. I forget what it is, though it may be jewel luster. In any event, I diluted it and have had good luck with it removing haze from proof and SMS coins, primarily silver.
I give the hazed coin a quick bath, rinse it in a solution of warm water and baking soda, then risne under cold water to make sure all of the dip and baking soda water is washed off of the coin. Then lay the coin on a white paper napkin and pat fry with another such napkin to make sure the coin's obverse and reverse are dry. I also roll the coin on it's edge on the napkin to dry the edge.
Most of the time the coin looks alot better after the bath, however if the coin has hairlines, milk spots or streaky toning so intense that it eats into the metal of the coin, the coin ends up much worse in appearance than it did before the haze was removed.
The tricky part is learning to discern with your eye and a loupe what exactly lies underneath the haze. If the stuff under the haze is of the type which a bath will not remove, then I do not bath the coin. If the stuff under the haze is of the type that a bath will remove without damaging the coin, then the coin takes the plunge.
Today's hazy cherry pick looks to be one which will emerge from a bath looking very fine, however I have detected ossible hairlines to the right of JFK's bust. If so, a potential GEM will turn out to be a run of the mill, low end specimen.
I will give an update later with the results of the bath.

A low end DCAM SMS is never a run of the mill coin in my opinion.
Even if I said it was, my opinion and $0.50 will,........................., maybe, if you are lucky, buy you a newspaper [but not a cup of coffee].
The results of the bath confirmed I made a good deal. The coin cleaned up nicely. The frosted devices on both side of the coin are very intence and thick. The fields are mirrored, but have some nicks, light hairlines and some toning around the rim that did not come off with the bath [though I suppose I could give it a second bath to see if I could remove the rim toning, but I do not think I will do so].
One of the better SMS halves I have cherried on the cheap. Not the rare "Dothead" variety however [I think Russ has all of those].
