If you see an eBay listing for a PCGS coin, do you consider it bad form if the PCGS price is included in the listing?

I don't like it personally, but it's something so trivial that I often just ignore it.

Not at all; that's what the PCGS Price Guide specifically represents.
    When in doubt, don't.

I believe you can even add a link to the PCGS price guide in your ebay lsiting.

  • So far, it's 50-50. image

I'm getting ready to list some. I'm starting to write the listing and it seemed wrong for some reason.

    Edited to add: 66-33.

But I do think it is allowed to post the PCGS Price Guide for that certain PCGS slabbed coin.

  • TC, When I started looking up the prices, my knee-jerk reaction was that it was wrong. However, I'm probably going to do it anyway. image

I don't mind although I'd probably ignore it.

No problem as long as your not disappointed if you don't get it...

  • People who would be interested in these coins probably don't really need that kind of help. Good point, Shamika and Stone.

It gives me a place to put my bid back from. 50% usally works pretty well.

  • I do list the PCGS price if it is more than I would have thought. For instance, I have a 1954 P Wheat cent in MS 66 Red. I am not selling it, but if I did I would definitely point out the $500 price guide price.

I don't mind if they give the PCGS price for the grade
the coin is in, but what I hate is the ones who will
give you the price for the next grade up, as if every
coin in a PCGS holder is undergraded by 1 grade.

This is used in a lot of Buy-It-Now sales to justify
some stupid price they want for the coin.

Depends on the series.I have trouble finding Capped Bust half dollars with decent eye-appeal at anything less that Pcgs price guide prices.Usually sell for more if nice for the grade.

I don't mind it at all if it is accurate. Some people that have taken advantage of some obvious mispricing on the PCGS Guide should be ashamed of themselves. You people know who you are...

What I don't agree with is a seller referencing the PCGS price guide when selling a coin graded by someone other than PCGS. Even though a bit overstated, to me the PCGS price guide is applicable only to PCGS graded coins.

  • I didn't list any prices. I thought it would be ignored/redundant like a few of y'all have pointed out.

It took me a long time without including the prices. image

  • I have had my auctions cancled by inserting the PCGS price guide for my PCGS coins. It is against Ebay policy to use any price guide while selling any coin. I did for years until a few months ago when they started to police the site for unaproved slabs. I even emailed Ebay about them being PCGS slabs and I did not get a response. image

If you truly believe that coins are worth just 50% of the PCGS priceguide, why not take advantage of their coins collateral loans? You get 65% on classics, then just fold up on the loan and enjoy your 15% profit. But somehow I think you dont really believe what you typed.image
  • It's obnoxious.

Sure why not if it's coin specific.
I do not myself, and ignore it when I see it, but it does not bother me.

i think "obnoxious" is rather too strong a description...but thats just me...

    Main Entry: ob·nox·ious
    Pronunciation: äb-ˈnäk-shəs, əb-
    Function: adjective
Etymology: Latin obnoxius, from ob in the way of, exposed to + noxa harm — more at noxious
    Date: 1597
1archaic : exposed to something unpleasant or harmful —used with to
    2archaic : deserving of censure
3: odiously or disgustingly objectionable : highly offensive
    — ob·nox·ious·ly adverb
    — ob·nox·ious·ness noun
  • No, but depends on the context. Consider that the prices are from auctions where the pictures are usually quite good or or the coin is sight-seen on the floor. Hence a fraudbay auction w/ a lousy pic does not warrant a PCGS price. That I would consider bad form. In general most people do not pay PCGS prices anyway.

I see some of those coins priced much higher than the PCGS price guide... I look for the ones priced at around greysheet (wholesale). That's where my money will go to...
  • Mozeppa, I didn't think it was obnoxious, but the more I thought about it, and the more input I received from folks here, I decided not to do it because it would’ve been offensive to some and of no value to everyone else.

Here is a link to my auctions.

Mozeppa, I have five bags of wheat cents that I’m going to start listing next Saturday; including those that I bought from you. I haven’t even gone through half of them. I’ve just lost interest.
