I received my first Alaska quarter in change today...

I'm a little short on material today, but I wanted to announce that this morning I received not one, but two Alaska quarters in change at the cafeteria. They look really nice, and although they were plucked from circulation, I could easily see them in a MS63 holder. If some dealers can make a small fortune over extra leaf quarters, I will be sure to scrutinize these coins for the excessively rare extra claw-nail or similar nonsense.

Has anyone else received one of these quarters yet?

When I received Coin World back in the day (ie. early 2008), I remember a column dedicated to reporting when ordinary folks were finding various new state quarters in various regions of the country. I found this information to be of little or no interest.

Yes. actually, someone popped a roll at the local shop down stairs and at the PO.

They look great.

I received one recently as well. It had a "prooflike" or "polished" look to it, not a "frosty" appearance you usually see on coins.

Got one in change from the Post Office today. They must be making their way around CT-

One of my co-workers snapped it up to put in his son's quarter map.

This is the best I could do with the cell phone camera. I don't think it has a macro setting. I would love to see what mgoodm3 could do with a cell phone camera, though!

Received many, but have not picked up any for the 5 sets I am doing. Need to go to the coin shop for those (I only get D mints in change and they have both)

I received my first 3 about an hour ago in change for the $3.24 worth of wasabi peas I bought (a little over a pound) for a German colleague. The cashier even announced when giving my my change, "here are your brand new shiny quarters from Alaska."

And yes, the design is quite cool.

i got 2 yesterday in my change and like longacre stated they would grade MS63 or 64 no problem. one of the best designs of the 50.

I've gotten 4 of them already, 3 at home here in NY and one in Ohio. All of them show signs of circulation already, even if it is just some scratches. I had already gotten a P and D set from my brother so I didn't save these. Well, they are still here, but they are in the To be Spent pile.

These just came out, and they already equal the number of New Mexico quarters I've gotten so far...
