<< <i>Very interesting ... what was the prior price for these sets ... A lot of speculators will not be happy to see these back up for sale >>
They were about double!
<< <i>What are the pros and cons for buying at these prices?
The pro is that it's considerably cheaper than it used to be. The con is that's a pretty stiff premium over spot.
<< <i>What are the pros and cons for buying at these prices?
Pro- low sales so far. Price of platinum could go up. Was over $2k a ounce 6 months ago.
Con-Still more than the current spot price. Price for platinum could drop or never go back up. People will buy these and increase the sales numbers significantly.
Possibly limited mintage since it is late in the year and no more prodution runs - pent-up demand from all the speculation
Some believe it will be the lowest mintage, even lower than the 2004 platinums which are very difficult to find
Much lower prices than earlier in the year and much closer to spot price of platinum
Con's
Everyone is buying them - will this be a repeat of the 2006-w plats
If everyone is buying them - who will buy for higher prices
Spot platinum prices continue to decline and may drop lower than gold prices?
Economy appears to be in a recession with even lower demand for platinum
For those who returned their coins earlier in the year and waited patiently for the lower prices, this looks like a good decision.
I don't know how many coins are available but I imagine the demand to be very high.
Did I miss anything?
Hoard the keys.

Do they still have the same return conditions?
The proofs were on sale longer before they were pulled. So sales are higher for the proofs than the unc-w's.
It really depends on how many of each that they minted whether they sell out. Unfortunately, we won't know this until after the sales are done.
I guess that is why they call this speculation and flipping.
Proof half ounce sold less than the uncirc tenth ounce so far.But then you have to add in the 4 coin set numbers I guess. So the uncircs win in every situtation for lowest number sold so far.
No chart for how many were returned thou.
IMO, less than 2,000 coins struck of each 1oz, 1/2 and 1/4, including sets (UNC-W)
I did call their return at around 1200 per oz
just as my good friend Eric did too.........
<< <i>What are the pros and cons for buying at these prices? >>

Congratulations on another "intelligent" one liners of yours.
<< <i>Just wait until the first option sells out. Then it will be a Katy bar the door rush for what remains. I am thinking the Unc W 1/2 oz will be the first to sell out. >>
How will one know when that has occurred?
If they repeat the scenario of the anniversary AGEs, they will simply take orders well in excess of they can deliver and then cancel them after several months.
