Why is this coin so cheap?

I don't get it. Here is a 1959 Lincoln PR66RD Cam on eBay for $79.99. PCGS's price guide has the coin at $1,250.00. What gives?

It's a proof. The PCGS price you quote is for a business strike.

OOPS! It's a cameo. The PCGS price guide is $1250 - which is WAY high. But, there's still no way the seller would go through with the sale.

Whoah! The price guide for Lincolns is totally fubared! Missing bunches of prices, and bunches more at many times normal.

It says, "That Cert is not available for display.", not, "That Cert Number was not found in the database.". Curious!

On top of the cert number not looking up it also looks funny, the first 1 looks different or just a bad pic.

    Seems strange?

I have one I was going to list on Saturday. It's NOT a cam. PCGS puts this @ $400.00.

I also have a 1960 Small Date, PCGS PR66RD. I saw another one on eBay for way less that PCGS's price guide.

I'm not sure I'm following you, Russ. The guy listed the coin with a BIN.

    Edited for spelling.

The proof Memorials are not aligned with the wheats in terms of grades. Notice everything skewed two columns to the left. The column for 70 is third from the right, not the rightmost column.

This is a $60 coin in 66RD CAM.

<< <i>PCGS has fixed the price guide. >>

I always saw this coin at $60. I assumed the $1250 you saw was in the 69CAM column, which is the same column used for the PR66 wheaties. If you went straight down in the 66 column in the wheats, you'd be in the 69 column for the Memorials. Is that not what happened?

Nope, but thanks, I just won $5 betting that you would somehow blame PCGS for this. image

You sell a lot on eBay (or used to), what would you say to a bidder if he wrote you with this story after winning one of your auctions? "I'm terribly sorry, but I only bid because I thought you had listed it for 10% of the current market value...."

What makes you think I will not honor my bid, or that I would contact the seller with an excuse? I have never refused to pay for a coin that I bid on, even if I made a mistake in bidding.
