who would give the highest grade, pcgs or ngc? Also, would you even consider sending it to NCS? Details seem almost AU but it is gunmetal silver without luster. Thoughts?

Photos help a little. As far as who gives it a higher grade, probably NGC but thats irrelevant. Often times, a PCGS 45 sells for the same as an NGC 50 anyway. If the coin has AU details, but is "flat", i'd be concerned it was dipped repeatedly and stripped of its luster then retoned to that gun metal grey you describe it as.

I don't think NCS or anyone else can restore luster lost from a coin. Do you think there's luster hidden beneath the toning? It should show through somewhat when you tilt the coin if it's there.

If it's a crusty and original as suggested then it would seem to me to be a numismatic crime to send it to NCS.

Looks to be a 40 or so (maybe a 35). Based on those photos, it would be a big mistake to send it to NCS.

If you can get it into PCGS plastic it will be worth more than a piece in NGC plastic...even if the NGC plastic is a couple points higher.

Based on those scans, that coin looks very nice as is. And there are lots of potential buyers for a coin like that.

The coin is super nice, but not close to AU, so forget about the "luster" issue.

Agree with Steve, the coin isn't close to AU, but it absolutely gorgeous. DO NOT SEND IT TO NCS. EVER. PERIOD.
You will have buyers lined up to buy a coin like that....one of the nicest 6/5s I've ever seen.

Ooooooo that is very very nice, not perfect but wow cool coin.

Higher VF, maybe 25 for a first approximation? NGC might give you a better nubmer but PCGS plastic still might win.

How bad is that skitch that looks like a unicorn horn on Miss Liberty?
