How we will know when the coin resession has hit

1) Actions on ebay with 99 cent starting bids will disappear, and they will be replaced by high opening bids and/or reserves.

2) The bidder's premium at the high-end auction houses will be reduced to seven percent.

3) PCGS will become customer centric:
a) Membership fees at the gold and platinum levels will be cut in half and fees for silver will be dropped.
b) Turnaround times will be a week for regular service and two for economy.
c) The Q&A Forum will be used to handle customer service problems; answers will be provided within 24-hours.

4) Longacre will begin to make rude remarks about dealers.

  • %) When dealers go out of business enmasse. Some may even offer inventory to the public at whatever the coins will sell for, because surviving dealers do not have the means or inclination to add to inventory.

When very busy dealers become extremly polite , no matter how stupid the question that is asked, you will know you are in a bear market in coins.

I was thinking moderns would have the "bean".
I see a capital "C" (CAC) in recession, should this happen.

When the upper crust Dealers offer to trade their MS68 widgets for your Gold Bullion modern crap.

image ....... but then.... isn't one of those Joisey Dealers already begging for that sort of transaction.

OK OK here it is ... When upper crust Dealers tell their clientel " Sorry Mr Rothschild, we can't use your magnificently toned MS68++++ CACed top pop Capped Bust Collection, we still have the 8 collections we bought last month. "

When Gold drops to under $500 and common date Saints are selling for $600 in mint state. And when silver drops below $5. I think these two will effect the coin business more than anything else.

You will suddenly find out ,that a number of
your MS-65 graded coins will only elicit MS-64
    offers, if at all.

You will suddenly find out that there is no market
for your coins at almost any price.

You will find out that dealers will be extraordinarily
selective about what they are willing to buy.

Suddenly, it will feel as if the entire mar5ket has smashed
    into a brick wall.
