After much deliberation, I've decided to take your offer.

Probably nothing to do with the economy, eh??

I recieved an email last night. I had offered 35K for a piece of currency (currency, coins - what's the differencce?? image) to a guy off ebay last January. Never heard from him. Now, after much "soul searching", difficulty parting with it, etc. he's decided to take my offer. image

May I suggest something along the lines of, "That offer was then, this lower offer is now."
    When in doubt, don't.
  • Tell him you were buying it with proceeds from selling stocks. That would put your offer now around 22k image

He's hurtin!! You got him by the short hairs cause you got the $$$ and he don't. Sound like smoe wheelin & dealin is fixin to happen.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • That's something that they actually remembered your offer and remembered who you were so they were able to get in contact with you 9 months later. They must've honestly kept that offer in mind the whole time. I'd be flattered before I'd be curious.

Wow. Buy that currency. Support the economy.

You don't want to be scapegoated for the crash, do you?

    Hm.

I think we know the "straw that broke the camel's back" now. This is our trigger incident. The $35k currency note that didn't sell that caused the whole shebang to unravel.

You see, that note was critical to the seller, an investment banker, getting cash. Due to the fractional reserve system, your refusal to pay $35k for this note has prevented the credit markets from leveraging that $35k into 3.5 trillion dollars. You are solely responsible for the next $3.5 trillion dollars of debt, and by loglcal extension, every other ill in the world.

Good luck! I hope that $35k was worth it.

You made a very generous offer initially, Lakes...

To the owner of the Coin/Currency :

I would be happy to broker a deal. Of course, a 10% retainer, based on the original asking price must be PayPal'ed ahead of time. This will ensure a smooth transition from point A (Seller's address) to point B (my friends at Heritage). No other fees will be required.

PM me for PayPal address and fine details.

For NINE months the guy probably used your offer as a backstop and also to push others to offer more.

Offers should have a 24 or 48 hour fuse. If the seller needs more time to make up his mind he can ask for it.

Coin dealers for the most part are the same as the rest of us, IRA's, mutual funds, some even have mortgages (imagine that...)
To think the coin market is insulated from the mess going on right now, you'd definately have to be smoking something REALLY good. Heritage's email this afternoon almost sounds almost like a broker, "everything is going to be fine, just stay the course", guess we'll see, might be smart to keep some powder dry but be careful of falling knives if it does correct, it'll be fast and furious to find a chair when the music stops.

    jhdfla,

I'm unclear on the concept of just how A) discussing and negotiating a transaction in an above board manner straight forward manner and B) 'the economy'--- relate to one another
I see that you've edited your remark while I was typing.

one is micro and the other is macro.

I will say this---I know of NO ONE who is losing their home or is unemployed who wants or needs to work.

I do know of quite a few people who have taken significant hits on their retirement accounts and SUPRISE SUPRISE SUPRISE---a lot of those people have put their heads in the sand and refuse to deal with the problem.

Correct me if I am wrong, and I can't speak for Lakesammman, but his opening line is," Probably nothing to do with the economy, eh??" How would you interpret what he was referring to?? Micro, macro, who gives a ****, if it isn't obvious to you that everything is interrelated by now then I feel sorry for you.

I know of no one losing their home either, but I know of more than a few who have less discretionary income due to lack of income from the stock market, and a few who are out of work who had to take lesser paying jobs. If this doesn't exist within your sphere I suggest you broaden your horizons (with all due respect of course...)

This thread is indeed a strange read. Lakesammman offers 35K nine months ago and his offer was ignored. Now nine months later he receives a message stating that his offer could be accepted if Lakesammman wishes. Then Lakesammman creates this post questioning the seller’s change of heart. Ok. Yes, the seller may be full of it and simply be desperate for cash. Or, the seller may be telling the truth. Either way, who cares? Now a bunch of replies have been made indicating varying degrees of delight over the prospect that the seller is having tough times and essentially chiding the seller for having the audacity to contact Lakesammman. Either you guys collectively missed out on some breast feeding and hugs as children, or there's a real mean spiritedness stirring in this post. As for me, I'm just curious what the 35K would have bought nine months ago...
