Ebay Phone Survey - was I too rough on them?
I received a phone call from a nice ebay representative this afternoon who wanted to survey me regarding their recent and upcoming changes.
I informed her that I don't like the new search format and that I don't like having to "opt out" every time I log back on. I advised her that I don't like waiting for pictures of junk that I'm not interested in to load so that I can re-set my search feature before I can go about my business.
I told her that I'm actively seeking every other possible venue for selling and/or buying coins because of their upcoming requirement for electronic payments.
I told her that their feedback policy changes which allow buyers to blackball sellers for any reason with no repercussions was killing the usefulness of the feedback system.
I told her that I really didn't care whether or not they are lowering their fees for fixed price auctions, because I like the real auction format much better.
I advised her that ebay's stock price was suffering due to all of their crumby policies and because of the cavalier ways that they treat the people who use their services. I suggested that her job is at risk if they continue to lose profitable accounts like mine because of their block-headed new policies.
I was as polite but as direct as I could muster, and she said that she would pass my comments along. I urged her to do that. I felt like a political candidate in a debate - not answering the question, but giving her all of my opinions. It was somewhat gratifying.

feedback policy, which I think is an improvement, on balance. (Note to would-be
flamers: I both sell and buy a lot of coins on eBay)
p.S. I haven't figured out how they're going to enforce the PayPal-only thing.

If it is anything like the way they're enforcing their ban on Google payments, it'll be with keyword searches and mass auction cancellations.

If the government still had any ballz (or money), some sort of antitrust action would
be initiated. Oh wait, they can just print the money.....
When will eBay realize that they're shooting themselves in the foot with this nonsense?

As long as you were civil, not at all. I also agree with most of your points.

At the exact point that it becomes too late to matter.

Simple! Just remove the "Payment Received" and "Payment Sent" options that buyers and sellers have. If they find you circumventing their system, they'll delete your account and that will be that.
The shooting and deleting will continue until eBay either doesn't have a leg to stand on or their are no sellers left!
I feel confident that they will end up with their established stores and a flat lined business but the small feller is out. The small seller is out and they really don;t seem to give a wicky! Cut enough small sellers and it surely should have some affect on their bottom line.
For the OP, I think you performed wonderfully!

Possibly withholding the buyers address until a pay-pal payment has been received?

No flames from me. I happen to agree with you. The petty retaliation and intimidation that was going on needed to come to a halt. I'd also note that it has now been nearly five months since that policy was changed and the dire predictions of buyers going on a negging spree were, of course, wrong.

Man just reading the title " Ebay Phone Survey" and I throught right away... Thats one phone call I'd love to get as I was just finishing the first bite of my Porterhouse at dinner.
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.
He asked questions and any comments a large seller may have .
The comment that I heard was something about a seller discount if
the star ratings were at a certain level . Apparently , the minimums
are so high ,that few qualify .
I also doubt that the comments were passed on , or if so , were
shrugged off .
If Ebay needs feedback , why not just read these boards , or NGC
boards , or hey , even their own community discussion and chat room boards .
They are all full of comments ,rants , suggestions , observations , etc ....

Nearly 70% of Powersellers qualify for a discount of at least 5%. More than 30% qualify at 15%, and approximately 15% qualify at 20%. That doesn't sound like "very few" to me.

Oooo Im in i love free food!!!!
Ebay sucks and I still love it.
<< <i>I commented in the ebay Coin forum that most dealers do not accept credit cards on bullion items and to force sellers to adopt business practices that GUARANTEE a loss (Ebay fees plus credit card/paypal fees exceed the buy/sell spread) verged on unlawful interference in commerce, since "ebay is just a venue." The post was removed and I received a 7 day suspension. >>
Nice to see that eBay is consistent: interested in neither free enterprise NOR free speech.
I see this stock market crash as a consequence of massive corporate stupidity, greed, and
arrogance, and as such, a good thing.
