Grade this Franklin 1950 Proof - SEE CONSERVATION PICS OCT-18
New purchase - Raw 1950 Frankie Proof
Any thoughts on how this will grade out at PCGS/NGC?
Trying to decide if I sell it or send it in for grading.

I only get the written link to show up. Confusing?
As far as the attachments, CU will only attach files that are smaller than 50KB (pretty small!)
Help
Thanks!!!
Finally... Photobucket to the rescue.
Can you help me grade this coin?
Thanks!!!

<< <i>64-66. Can't really grade proofs with much accuracy from pictures. It looks like you do have a shot at cameo, though, which would be a major score. >>
well said
comes back 64-66 (cam will be a BONUS)... it will be a good win!
I have a 66 cam in my registry NGC set so just in case it comes back the same I can pick and choose which one
I keep.
Best regards
Maybe an extreme closeup of the coin would help - on a 45% angle with light sources that show the details of the surface?
I like it

I agree with John. It's worth a shot with PCGS. Certainly looks original. 1950 cameos are TOUGH.
<< <i>That coin would seriously cam at either PCGS or NGC. >>
It has a shot at Cam, but those mirrors are a bit shallow. Not a bad coin, it's just that the services are really tight right now. You might think about sending it to NCS, they might be able to help out the coin and make the mirrors come through better. Then a cam would be in order. The frost is very pleasing.
Send it to me - for my album of raw Proof frankie's that I have going with my raw Mint set Frankies
I'll save you a ton of headaches and money to boot.
and he will have a nice home in a 40 yr old folder for coins of his stature.
PM me on your price.

I sort of like the idea of sending it to NCS and seeing if they can clean up the mirrors. Looks like most of you are suggesting that I send to PCGS for grading
rather than NGC. Guess it will be worth the normal premium PCGS brings a coin. Wonder if it is common practice to just send it to NCS for conservation
and return to me and then send to PCGS for grading?
Thanks again for the helpful comments!
<< <i>keep in mind that we're assessing a picture, and pictures tend to exagerate the frost and the mirrors/contrast. also, as others have pointed out, assuming anything to be a lock currently is a big mistake. >>
I must totally agree with this comment. Even when you think you have a lock... you might find yourself with a bill for a piece of plastic that angers you... I know I have here recently.
It appears to me that the reverse is a cameo, but obverse is light.
Do you think the conservation services improved the coin?
Take a look down the string of replies and compare to pre-conservation.
Which service has highest chance getting a Cameo rating...PCGS or NGC?

Guess they just looked like them in the 2 other images that were removed.

I kind of liked it better before
If you don't mind sharing, what did that cost you to conserve?
Still not sure if I am going to grade coin or put it up for sale on ebay for $1K and see if any takers.
Looking at the coin with the naked eye, it looks fantastic. I have a 1950 NGC 66 Cam
in my registry set and compared them side by side. Sure looks very similar to me, but
I am certainly no expert and usually guess incorrectly.
