NGC Sample Slab

Picked up this neat sample slab for just under $40.00.

I've never seen an NGC sample with a Morgan in it.

I can't tell if this is an NGC type 1.1 or 3- (Ah, OK it's a 4.1-- thanks Dog97!)

The label is green.

Thankfully the junk on the back was just tape residue and came off with a rub of the thumb. Coin looks a lot nicer in hand. Very pretty orange toning on the obverse at 2:00 and on the reverse rim.

Thanks-

That's a common slab. I have #12 of the 199999 series & #7 which is a Peace dollar. There's an old thread around here where we had accounted for many of the 199999 issue.
The rev hologram makes it a 4s1 according to conder's old book and the numbers may be obsolete.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

It's unfortunate that part of the hologram came off. That was one of the flaws of the earlier NGC slabs---pull off a label and watch the hologram come off with the sticker.

  • Maybe kinda "common" but still worth in the $80-100 range.

Aparently they did not list Sample in the title if it was ebay. Or the dealer did not know what they have. I'd pay $80 each for dozens of these if anyone has them.

    Good call!- image

"Sample" was not mentioned in the title, just the description. It was just listed as an "NGC MS60 Morgan Dollar".

(yeah, I'm wierd, I search for MS60 coins from time to time)

  • If sample had been listed in the title it would have brought over $150, easy.

    Cameron:

If all the sample collectors had been aware of that sample, I would probably figure on between $120 to $160 myself as the Morgan silver dollars in the NGC slabs would generate more than the Peace silver dollar onces.

Nice coins - Especially the 1881-O. I wish some of my 63's looked like those 60's!

  • to be honest, with these sample slabs I've never paid much attention to how the coin looks compared with the number on the insert. Now that you mentioned it, that is a nice looking MS60.
