This annoys me
I don't know how you guys feel on this and flame me if you'd like, but this annoys the crap out of me...especially how's it's phrased: "There will be a 3% fee for using Paypal as it is for your ease and convienence of use not mine."
Paypal is, IMHO, convenient for both buyers AND sellers, but this guy thinks otherwise. Is charging buyers to use Paypal even allowed on eBay?

<< <i>Report him to Paypal as this is against their rules/regulations. >>
I just chatted live with an eBay representative and OF COURSE, she didn't know the answer. So I sent eBay's trust and safety department an e-mail. I will e-mail Paypal too I suppose.
Thanks,
Mark

You can either charge the higher price that includes paypal fees or offer a lower price if you pay cash. I just like the security of paying with a credit card and would choose to pay the 3% if it was a dealer I don't know.
<< <i>Paypal is, IMHO, convenient for both buyers AND sellers, but this guy thinks otherwise. >>
He's not the only one who thinks otherwise. IMHO, as a seller, PayPal is not convenient for me. I would prefer to receive checks or money orders.
<< <i>but this annoys the crap out of me... >>
Newsflash- if you're buying something from a business- any business- you're paying towards *all* the business's expenses. Even the ones they don't tell you about.
An added extra & instant 3% is NOT a convienence for a weasel coin dealer???
My arse hurts because I laughed so hard it fell off!!
<< <i>I would prefer to receive checks or money orders. >>
And get fewer bids. I'd love to receive checks and money orders only too, but I've come to realize that I get more bids when I offer Paypal which many times offsets the Paypal fee and more.
<< <i>I've come to realize that I get more bids when I offer Paypal which many times offsets the Paypal fee and more. >>
Offering multiple payment options is a convenience for the buyer, is it not? I could offer to accept live chickens and maybe get an additional bid every so often, but that doesn't necessarily mean that being paid in live chickens is a convenience for me, does it?
<< <i>If he had a noodle in his mellon he'd just take 3% of the expected retail value and add that to his shipping costs. Keep his mouth shut and not have anyone getting upset with him. >>
What - and have to endure all the 'what a ripoff shipping charge' threads on this forum? The horror!

That being said, I do not think it is an unreasonable request. As a seller, I usually prefer to assume the PayPal fees as a courtesy to my bidders/buyers, but when one gets over a certain price level, even that 3% bite begins to itch and sometimes sting a little.
I agree that it is much more convenient for BOTH buyers and sellers, but if this guy finds it inconvenient for him personally, that's his personal opinion and perfectly valid.
He'd better play by the rules on eBay, though. He should just tack 3% of the estimated value onto his opening bid.
Now if he were here, on BST, and asked the 3%, I would not begrudge that. As a seller, he's got a right to prefer certain payment methods over others.

I agree...no big deal on the BST. We're all friends here.
He is asking to be negged.

For example, the State of Pennsylvania allows taxes and tuition at Penn State to be paid online by CC, but they tack on the 2-3% fee.
<< <i>It annoys me because of how it's phrased. Like he's doing me a big damn favor for taking Paypal. >>
You are a real hoot DOH!! It seems if someone's grammar isn't written in a way that the mass behind your eye sockets reads it that person is not worthy to do anything in your world.
Why don't you do some Pro Bono charity work somewhere and lay off of people. Geeze! JMHO.
<< <i>but he's a Powerseller, so I wonder if they'll do anything. >>
Amazingly enough, the fact that he's a Power Screwer doesn't amount to a hill of beans. He'll still get popped. BUT, it has to be a T&S drone that has a clue.

PayPal... I already cover the shipping in my price.. I guess it's the same as my B@M shop not taking
credit/debit cards for bullion purchases...
My local B@M deals in cash only... CC's are not even an option on bullion sales...
You always have the option to MOVE ON to teh next listing if you don't like his terms.
I would rather have a seller be honest up front. Rather than bury the expected charges into shipping.
If paypal thinks it is such a great deal for both parties. Then maybe all Ebay sales should split the fees.
1.5% for both the seller and the buyer.... It happens at any other auction house... Heritage, TeleTrade to name
a few... They both add juice on both sides from what I have seen on the boards...

Sounds like he is avoiding paying income taxes and sales taxes. I wonder how he would do in a tax audit.

....over the last week there have been like a dozen threads complaining about Ebay, FleaBay, FeeBay, EPay....yet everybody keeps buying and selling there....??........of course you do because it's the biggest and most accessible market place.....so take a little bit of the bad with the considerable good and shut up already!
<< <i>You guys crack me up pissing and moaning all the time about this small stuff.

I gripe about my wife all the time... But I still love her....
I gripe about the fluctuations in the PM market but I still buy them....
Go figure.....
He must have fixed it because I don't see anything about an extra charge for PayPal?
<< <i>You guys crack me up pissing and moaning all the time about this small stuff. >>
Hey, this is nearly a 30 post thread. Seems like it was entertaining for people to chime in on, yourself included. And now the seller changed his auction to comply with eBay rules. So I guess all I can say to you is you're welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed reading my thread and adding to it.
Also, I'm not complaining about eBay in any way shape or form. I'm fine with eBay....I'm annoyed with idiot sellers.

It's hunting season. Be happy!!!
I've got the perfect deer costume for you. Though I suspect that you'd have too much fat to make tasty steaks.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Anyone that hunts and collects coins is ok by me.
<< <i>A thread like this just isn't complete without TavernTreasures coming to complain about ebay and the little narquers
When I see threads like this where some forum members (AKA Ebay police) gleefully rat someone out, I just think to myself: "Here they go again".

Is it possible he saw this thread and deleted it?

Correct, the seller changed it. Either he read this thread or eBay told him to. Either way, works for me.
