I noticed that too. It was the first time the mint used UPS to ship something to me. I wonder if they transfered when they were doing their yearly inventory and not shipping anything. Their yearly inventory was at the beginning of Sept.

Same here. Stuff delivered UPS. I prefer USPS as it gets placed into the mailbox.
  • UPS delivered a mint order to me evidently yesterday, because I found it at the doorstep going into my garage this morning when my pooch and I went for a walk to get the morning paper around 8:30AM. They are not a viable alternative to the USPS when they just throw the package down at any door and leave. I don't know who to raise hell with yet but someone is going to get an ear full!image

Luckily I was home when delivery was made. He was just going to leave the package in front of the door.

Sounds like it is time to get a mail box address.

It won't do any good complaining to UPS. They have a quota system for deliveries. File a complaint with the Mint. Maybe they will dump UPS.

Sucks for me. Now any US Mint products I get will get left out in the weather. My side door is out in the open. The front door(15-20 steps further) is sheltered. The problem is UPS will set packages outside the side door, knock on that door and run like hell to their truck. That's all fine, but not good when I'm not home and it's raining. I once found a package left out by the door in the rain. The box was soggy like cooked noodles, but thankfully the item on the inside was shrinkwrapped. If these knuckleheads would take 20 more seconds out of their day it could be on my front porch under a roof. Never the problem with USPS and big packages always end up under the porch when they deliver.

At least you'll be able to track you mint product online. It will tell you when to expect delivery. This way you can search for it on your "front porch" when you get back home from work. With DHL/USPS ... it was always a guessing game & the tracking # that they supplied was useless.. 5 days or 10 days after the Mint indicated it was shipped.

Either way my experiences with USPS have been superior to UPS. If the lazy bums would take an extra few seconds to set it under my front porch I'd have no problems. I usually know what day a package comes from UPS. It's just going to happen anytime between 9am and 7pm. Justset it under the porch out of the weather and I'd be perfectly satisfied. USPS does. Don't know why UPS can't. My postman will even ring the doorbell and wait to see if someone answers before he leaves the package and walks away.

  • I talked to a lady at the mint today. They do not have a person on the phone to talk to you about complaints!! Imagine That! The lady gave me an address for the U.S. Mint at 801 Nineth St. NW, Philadelphia, PA. 20220 whom I could write to explaining my distast regarding UPS shipping. Isin't that just precious? Government at its finest. They are right up there with the boso's who are letting our economy fall into the tank.image

  • USPS/DHL takes forever to deliver. What about UPS? What kind of shipping mode(i.e. Ground, 3 day select, etc.) does u.s. mint uses?

As the church lady always stated ISN'T THAT SPECIAL.

What I don't get is UPS doesn't ship coins from customers, but will for the US Mint. Isn't that calling the kettle black?

I guess some lucky new bozo running numbers at UPS sat down in the control room and said look here u all we need business, so Uncle dilert forgot one thing a few years back about shipping coins. Yea don't take em from the cusomers because I know they are liars and cheats, but who says we can't ship em for the US govt Mint hell they will pay us and take the loss if they get stolen, so who's with me. Now all say I, so Mr Bozo signed the contract to save his job and pay his mortgage for another 4 years.

    Isn't that Special.image

Personally, I think the choice of shipper is up to the Fulfillment Center as they have been know to use all 4 shippers for even the same products.

    USPS
    DHL
    UPS
    FedEx

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Do like I did, call and tell them NEVER to use UPS. They change your profile in their system, and you'll NEVER have another box of coins dumped off in public view.

I haven't gotten anything from them via USPS for years. They were shipping Fedex overnight. Last one came UPS ground and I blamed that on the weight of the rolls of dollars at face. I got tired of driving to Fedex at night when I got home so I got a private mail box. It's great. They sign for it and keep it inside out of the rain. Blocks from my house. --Jerry

I've personally stopped using UPS for any shipping. Their minimum rates, for a 1 lb box....have gone through the roof.

FEDex ground for heavy stuff, USPS for registered and international.

USPS parcel post for large packages within your zone is amazingly cheap also.
  • I thought I was covered for vacation with a mail stop, but came home to find a somewhat wet UPS delivery of Jackson dollars on the doorstep. They must have delivered on a rainy day. It was a crushed cardboard box wrapped in plastic. I have no idea how long it had been there.

I'm suprised of all these stories of mint shipments left on doorsteps. I live in a safe neighborhood with a covered front porch. I got tired of driving to pick up mint shippments so I asked Fedex if I could sign a release to leave things on my doorstep. They said they couldn't do that because the mint had specified that they had to have a signature from someone at the address (you could have a neighbor kid wait and sign, that was fine, but they had to be at your house. You couldn't leave a note for them to leave it with a neighbor). So I called the US mint and was told they could not ship without the signature requirement. So I tried hard to get them to leave shipments on my front porch but was unsuccessful. The private mail box is better anyway. --Jerry

Holy Canoli! I just stepped outside to let my dog out and noticed two packages on my front step. They are the 8 boxes of the Direct Ship Presidential dollars I ordered, just sitting there. That adds up to about 2K sitting there, no need for a signature. I had today off so I was home, they didn't even ring the doorbell image

Now, I am going to open them all up, take a 1 second look for major errors, and go spend them like the Mint wanted me to. I might just go to the Post Office and buy a money order with them and deposit that into my bank. Is that wrong? image

I guess I should add that the main reason I bought them was because of the reward points I get on my credit card and I don't have a single penny more than what they are actually worth into them.
