What would be the value of a 1965 Topps Steve Carlton SGC holdered "A" (authentic) car be worth. The card has a NM/MT apperance, but is slightly trimmed.

Very, very subjective. It's not worth anything to me, zero...but on ebay I'm just guessing it may fetch $50 - $75 especially because a few bidders might take a shot of cracking it and submitting it to PSA., and besides it is a very popular card.
So the value of the card you are speaking of, to me, is nothing. Take it out of the holder and fold one of the corners, though, and then I'll be interested.
<< <i>As I said in the other thread, I think having it autographed and slabbed by PSA/DNA would be a very good move. >>
i do like that idea.. do both of these guys sign for free? thatis the only way i would want to do it.

Also - Some "scammers" might crack it and get it slabbed in a Pro graded holder which may fetch over $100.

Free? I don't know...I do know that Carlton does a number of autograph shows so his sig can be gotten at some price.

Why do people pay anything for PRO and GEM graded stuff anyway? Are they hoping that maybe, just maybe, the cards aren't trimmed or recolored?
Sincerely,

The auto is free, you just have to pay $50 to get the card back.

That's a possibility or a probability, and in my view there's enough newbies that jump in and out of the hobby depending on their mood, who know little to nothing about grading companies, and buy the Pro graded cards believing they're getting a bargain versus those "more expensive" PSA graded cards.

Talk to Carlton's son for the details.
I'd get a second opinion.

Yet when the SGC grader first saw it it was ok?
Only when the guy that proofs it claimed differently?
If it measures up (which I think the OP said it did) then I'd want a second opinion.

I wouldn't say that I could say for certain that it was trimmed from the scan but there were quite a few of us that said it looked trimmed before he sent it in. That being said I would probably get it signed, even if there was a fee, and then send it to PSA/DNA.

What is to say the second opinion might not be right? Would you want to buy a card that is suspect? I personally think this card would be better in a PSA/DNA holder.
<I wouldnt pay anything for a trim carded. Its worthless in my eyes.>
send em all to me,then ill get em autoed if it a hof'er
I wouldn't bother getting Ackley to sign, but that's just me, I'd rather have just the HOF'er.

I did too.
What harm is in sending it in for a second opinion?
Unless a card is butchered no one can say for certain that a card is trimmed by looking at a slab.
I wonder how many times a card was rejected by PSA, sent back in and then holdered?
I also wonder how many cards are in peoples collections that the above has happened to?
IMO and it is only my opinion I'd do the PSA/DNA thing only after I tried one more time to get it holdered.

Steve - You're right, it is sometimes difficult to tell if a card is trimmed from a scan, however it isn't difficult at all to tell if a card has been trimmed when in hand and especially under a loupe. I'm not gonna speak for any grading company but if the graders are trained properly, then they really should be able to spot a trimmed card 100% of the time. I'd be very surprised if this card would make it past the PSA graders, and as previously mentioned I would almost be certain this card has likely already been submitted to PSA..
But your point is understood that for the grading fees, the chances of reward are quite high if it does get slabbed, so it's up to the OP what he wants to do.

remember, this means busting it out of the Authentic SGC slab.
No I would not send it to beckett.
depending on how I felt about the card, I'd buy a membership with PSA and sumbit it with my 6 freebies.
I would have to be fairly certain that it was not trimmed though.
If you intend on getting it auto'd you have to crack it out anyway.
