Ebay auction specifically says "Paypal only" buyer wants to pay by check

I recently sold a $55.00 dollar item on Ebay. In the auction description, it clearly states "Paypal only". I got this message from the winning bidder:

"Hello, I have won this item from you. I need your full name and address. I will be paying by personal check, please review my feedback, you will see I am an honest ebay buyer who uses personal checks on 99 percent of all purchases. I can get the check in the mail by tomorrow with confirmed name and address. Many thanks."

Thoughts?

You can set that up so they cannot even bid without a paypoo account.

I would take the check. ($55 is low enough I wouldn't worry about it.

I probably would ship it when check arrives too if his feedback is +++.

I think that's what I'll do- Afterward, I will modify my selling account to only accept "Paypoo" image

    Thanks-

Depends on his feedback score, and rating.

If it's a high score, with lots of coin purchases for comparable amounts, and no negs (from back when sellers could leave them), I'd take the check.

(SaorAlba - the buyer could have a PP account, and still pull a stunt like this after winning the lot.)

Feedback score 454, 100% feedback. I'll take the check-

  • Why the Paypal only?
You so desperate for money you can't wait a couple days to get a money order or check in the mail?
I bet you'll be screaming on here when you get nailed with a big chargeback from some scammer Paypal buyer.

  • I accepted lots of checks over the years and have never received a bad one yet. I've had good luck so far. I look at the feedback and usually ship it right out.
Witty sig line currently under construction. Thank you for your patience.
  • I also accepted checks over the years and i have saved thousands of dollars on poo poo fees. What ebay is going to do in october is like a company would do in a country like IRan, Cuba, or IRaq, and not a free capitalistic society. I will never be at paypals mercy and sell a coin on ebay for over $500. In this economy you are going to see more and more scammers coming out of the woodwork playing the paypal game like the coin wasn't described or the wrong coin was shipped. I know of a few people who were grabbed by the ba....ls from scrupulous buyers who were trying to get a hefty discount or the item for free by making up some frivulous story. Again, if you are selling coins in the thousands and have sold them in the past with checks only good luck selling coins in the thousands through poo poo pal. All I have to stay is sleep tight until the statute of limitations expires for the buyer to do a chargeback. Paypal is perfectly fine for sellers like me who sell mostly everything under $500, but for the big sellers well again good luck and sleep tight.
  • I'll second that, I've probably accepted over 1000 checks and not one bounced or was a fake. Yes, I had a few people here and there who would say, "don't you accept paypal, or I don't want to follow through with this purchase without paypal". It happened, but probably 1 out of every 50 or 60 transactions where a buyer woudl back out of the deal. I'll get my own merchant account before I get a poo poo account. Also cut the bs about trying to make the buyers experience on ebay a great one, stop insulting out intelligence. If ebay was so concerned about doing the right thing why do they only reimburse you the final value fees when a buyer backs out and not the listing fees? Ah, because it affects their bottom line just like forcing electronic payments on everyone will affect their bottom line.

Wow! Who p****d in your Cheerios this morning? image

No I am not desperate for the money, it is just difficult for me to get to the bank sometimes so Paypal is easier. And I did accept checks/money orders at one point, but got burned by a bad check so have since been a bit reluctant since then....

I've got paypal but don't like to use it often. I personally enjoy getting a money order and sending out envelopes with the money order.

Since ebay has this paypal only thing, I stick to the BST. Lots of great people and great deals. Forget ebay
