Is acetone okay on aluminum?

I think I probably know the answer to this, but acetone won't cause me any trouble on an aluminum coin, will it? The seller is apparently a big fan of PVC and staples (fortunately, the staples didn't cause the problem; unfortunately, the PVC flip did).

you state the staples did not cause the problem but they may have. the weaker metal will become the "sacrificial metal" in that enviornment. in the old days in steel hulled boats they would place zinc bars to displace rust on the steel.
Acetone is volatile guys- read the MSDS on it before you play mad scientist or smoething like it.
take it from an expert in safety- don't mess with man nature- we made it to screw the world...

Isn't rust oxidation?
Nature (humidity and the gases in the atmosphere) playing heck on the elements that we use in our every day life?

Rust is a term for iron oxides, reaction of iron with oxygen and moisture. its a common term for corrosion of iron. Other corrosion exists but not termed rust. Aluminum corrosion occurs slower and forms aluminum oxide in a process called passivation.
