Come early next year, a merchant accepting cards and using their own processor will also have to have an interface acceptable to feebay.
    Are they offering that?

Well, that beats the 3% + 30 cents at Pay-pal.

And being an executive member it looks like all other fees are waved. image

What do you mean by that? Not just any merchant credit card processor is acceptable? I got an offer in the mail yesterday about 1/2 the price of the costo offer in the OP. Note that paypal offers merchant credit card processing too at an even higher price: $30/month and your paypal rate plus .2%. Since they offer it they will be trying hard not to let you use another one.

The processor checkout has to be integrated into auction checkout. Many (most) don't offer that software.

Ah yes, the old familiar "I will open it up to everyone but place restrictions such that almost no one can actually do it.....but I did open it up"

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

There are a number of processors that offer the software.
As a Costco member, I'm very interested if Nova has a the software to integrate into feebay.

This issue is not about the rate. Yes, eBay's fees are out of line. PayPal's, however, are reasonable compared to competitors (e.g. traditional merchant accounts). The existence of other options is what keeps PayPal's fees reasonable. The real reason to avoid PayPal is the increased risk. PayPal is FAR riskier to merchants than a traditional merchant account. Anyone choosing PayPal over a merchant account on the basis of fees needs to factor in fraud losses as well. Merchant accounts then look very attractive.

I have two merchant accounts with Nova and would like to see them develop this interface too. If they don't and I decide I want to return to selling on eBay, I'll just get another merchant account. I already did that when the Nova account wouldn't integrate with the payment gateway on my website. I have three merchant accounts now and would gladly add a fourth if needed to sell on eBay and have an alternative to PayPal.

  • This sounds like it is getting complicated with this intergrating and processor stuff.

Ebay is going to lose the old fashioned mom and pop type retail sellers.

Checks and MO's in the mail are easy for anybody to deal with. Mail order companies have been accepting this type of payment for decades.

Why is Ebay making something that works unacceptable?

  • I think the best solution is to contact the winning bidder or the seller after a completed auction.

Buyer: Will you take a check?
Seller: Sure, and I'll send you the coin after your check clears my bank.

Simple.. easy.. done deal. No need to involve Paypal.

Perhaps, but the problem with this is that unless a buyer knows this ahead of time, they may not bid at all. Maybe buyers who want to write a check need to contact the seller before bidding?

About your offer of a less expensive option,

The savings can be a bad way to judge a credit card company. There are a lot of ways for cheap offers to be the most expensive in the long run. Get SOLID references and do your research before you take the 1/2 price deal.
    Have a nice day
