Should I be an ebay bidder?

Just wanted to get a few opinions. A new seller has some Washington quarters I would like to bid on but---He appears to have some new style PCGS holder with barcodes on both sides. I let him know in one auction. He thanked me and cropped the reverse pic to cut out the barcode. I reported another to ebay after this. All are still up. I don't normally do this, but I am now because I had my first not-so-good transaction on the bay this week. Is this a good sign to stay away from this guy even though I can pay with Paypal? Thanks, Tony

Should you be an eBay bidder, in general? Why, yes, of course. The selection is hard to beat. Bid smart, though, and I like to use a sniping program like esnipe.com to bid for me.

Should you be an eBay bidder on this lot in particular? I dunno. Follow your gut instinct, I guess. If something looks hinky, back off.

    Link to seller's items.

I would bid with no problem, he has sold coins recently with no problems.

Looks ok to me. The holders look fine, and he's been a member for awhile, with all of his recent sales looking good. I would have no problem bidding on his stuff if I needed it.

    You reported him for what???
He shows both sides of the slab......maybe I am the slow one but please tell me what he was doing wrong that got you to report him......and, if you would be so kind as to provide a link to the ebay "rule" for it, that would be appreciated.

You must have been reading a lot of the ebay paranoia threads around here to be this wrapped up on a seller like this......maybe you should go check out taverntreasures' auctions image

I know I could always get money back with Paypal, but does anyone else see what I'm saying about the holders? A new holder obverse with an older blue holder reverse on some coins. Maybe just lazy on the pics? Might bid anyway.

I don't jump to report anything. It's just that I told him what was wrong with his pics and the fix was to crop out the mistake. It is not a slab, it's two different slabs. I think that would be a violation, but I'm not sure. Tony

Sure, 2 different slabs (obv/rev of different coins IS a problem).
Sounds like it would be 100% return as not received. When so many modern sellers don't even have to put up pics of the coins, unless there is a problem with it, I wouldn't worry about a washington quarter (non-toned).

The rev could look the same and he, like many lazy sellers on these forums, just feels that 1 image could work for all if they look alike. That's possibly what you ran into.

I think you probably jumped to conclusions, personally.

  • The obverse of the holder is not new. PCGS has not used the series or coin number for a while now. The seller is now though with only 19 or whatever sales. They are all positives. Returns incur many fees. I guess you probably would get the coin so I'd bid but I'd bid %10 lower than what I'd pay for a coin sight seen because that is what the return fees might cost me.

Tony, hi my name is Mr Move it on. If you don't like someone's auctions just click on to another page. You guys need to stop trying to get your milk chips on finding little things wrong with sellers, I see nothing wrong with this auction. They are in a PCGS slab and he offers a refund. Jesus H CHristmas!!!
  • There are some forum members who would approve of your ratting out that Ebay member for his trivial infraction. Congratulations.
