is this a buyers or a sellers market?

With all of the banks in a perceived turmoil the economy seems unsure. So, in your opinion is this a buyers or a sellers market?

The downturn in the economy is stressing the average persons discretionary income; thus, with fewer dollars chasing coins, it's a buyers market.

Depends on the coin of course, but overall I'm leaning towards buyers market. Lots of people selling to raise funds and fewer buyers out there because of the economy. That doesn't apply to every person and every situation of course, but overall I think that's how it is.

I will go along with the conventional wisdom that it is a buyers market ONLY when I start to see prices go down in the series that I collect. I don't sell enough to know if dealers are having trouble unloading inventory, but I do know that I have not seen a fall in prices in Capped Bust material.

i'm sure repercussions are forth coming and a "buyers market" is around the corner but

as much as i oversee my matty's as a price tag so do many others with coins of stature and many will just go into hiding

if prices drop the selection will too

I vote buyers market. I got hammered on ebay last night. Lost money on every single coin I sold. (I list everything starting at .99 and usually do just fine). I had taken a little time away in late summer and usually this is a good time start selling again. Not this year.

Same here. I think it's fairly balanced but leaning toward a buyer's market, and if the economy deteriorates further it will be a solid buyer's market.

Bingo! The common stuff will be hurting as many have it and many will need to sell, or just decide to sell as they can always get them back late (think moderns, common morgans, etc).

The rare stuff, the hard to find, the ultra original older stuff, will still go for good money as, even though the economy sucks as a whole, there are those that still have money.

I'm out of the coin market currently as we are in the process of buying a new house -- but I don't think I'll be missing much coin-wise until after we settle into our new digs.

(For anyone who thinks I'm crazy to be buying a house in Los Angeles right now, we are only considering foreclosures at a heavy discount. One we have an offer on would be at more than 50% off the last sales price and more than 30% off current comps, so any future decline will have already been priced into our offer.)

I'm a seller and not a buyer at this point so I can try to re-fi my house. Seems like it is a buyers market.

I expect the bifurcation in the market to intensify (what else is new?). The strong and better capitalized hands controlling and seeking all the best and highest-quality stuff will still hold their coins and seek more of them as they are less impacted by tougher economic times, whereas a lot of average collectors of modest means will have to start selling more coins that are more likely to be schlock.
