So what is your biggest coin related injury?

OK, I admit, I pulled a dorko move today. Cracking out some Ike's from brown boxes that looked like they could use a dip, using a swiss army knife to get the crack started, it slipped off and went straight into my palm. An emergency room visit (and finding out my co-pay just went up) and 4 stitches later, I have to say, this is now my most expensive Ike. image

So who else will admit to a coin related boo-boo? image

This isn't the one that got me, I will try to image it tomorrow when I am more in a "good coin mood" and replace this stand in Ike pic.

I have had a few fights with SEGS slabs and with old cent tubes that shrink so the coins won't easily come out.

I don't know about you rgCoinGuy.
I'd advise you not to put a penny on a railroad track to flatten it.
You might not let go when the train comes by.
Then off to the hospital you go again.

While I was stealing some gas from my neighbors car to run my saw he caught me and beat me with a baseball bat then the cops came & shot me with pepper spray and tasered me.
Total costs of crackout including bail, fines, court costs & postage was $4,500.97.

Recently rubbed my left elbow raw on the desk while looking for die varieties in a big bag of Buffalo nickels. A simple band-aid cured my "cherrypicker's elbow."

I broke my thumb inserting a statehood quarter into a Whitman album.
I didn't want to mar it up hammering it into the image folder, so I placed my thumb over the coin and then used the hammer. image

In reality, I cannot think of any injuries, but I've had a lot of pain in the neck using a loupe.

Not an injury-or me-but when i used to sell at flea markets (I am talking a long time ago--maybe 1973) a woman got all excited about some common old english large pennies that i was selling for 25 cents each. She did not have any money on her so she quickly drove home and got some. But on the way back -(she was so afraid that i would sell them all real fast i guess) she got into a minor accident (no injuries-just a broken tail light) and then got a ticket for going through a stop sign. Sheesh. I can see something like this happening if you are going to miss out on a great bargain-but common coins? She did buy all i had then, i would have held them for her if she had asked but she didn't. Total sale was about $8.00

I got scratched while putting the family cat into a slab. Finally got the nasty feline vermin locked in and realized I’d forgotten the air hole. Oh, well….

Sitting at my desk, I dropped a coin and as I reached to to grab it, knocked over the lamp, it shattered on the floor, startled the dog, he jumped up and scared the sh.. out of the cat, the cat ran out of the room, tripped my wife, and she fell down the stairs knocking over a lit candle which caught the drapes on fire and the house burned down. OK not, but it coulda happened....... so don't you feel better now?

I pinched my finger something fierce when setting up my stereoscope. The boom slid down the mast and my finger was between two big, heavy pieces of steel that came together with notable authority.

I got mine beating myself on the head after I LOST an AU 1837 small 5c. half dime at the doctor's office while getting a shot in the behind. I had just gotten it from Rich Uhrich in my mail which I picked up on the way to my appointment. It must have fallen out of my pocket when I had to drop trou to get a shot. True story.

Using a hammer to crack slabs once, I got a piece of flying plastic shrapnel in my eye. Wasn't serious, but taught me a lesson.

Another time, while detecting, shortly before digging up an 1894-O Barber half, I was chopping a root with my digging knife and whacked myself across the back of the hand with it. That stung. Fortunately the digging knife was pretty dull and didn't cut me, but I did have a bruise and a little torn skin there. The pain went away the moment that Barber half rolled out of the plug of sod. Funny how that works. Call it Silver Therapy, I guess. image

Me too, sort of. I pulled my back out a few year ago, lugging around 34 pound bags, when I was going through my "unsearched wheat penny phase". Could not even walk for 3 days.

I have had no actual physical injuries to my person, not counting eye-strain, but I did severely injure my acrylic kitchen sink with acetone removing pvc from some coins. It took the shine right off a couple of places. I haven't fessed up to my wife about it. She thinks acrylic sinks are no damn good. HM

Did you try some plastic polishing compound to get the shine back? May be worth a try.

Back in April of 2002, when State Quarter Bags
were hotter than a pistol, I did a deal of 15
    Bags of Georgia Quarters -

Customer brought them to my building, I
took them up on a flat-bd cart (three trips),
and with my assistant, prepared to ship them
to a buyer in Florida. I had to pick 'em up and
put them on shipping counter, put 'em back
down, take 'em downstairs again, to the PO,
    etc. etc.

The next day, woke up fine, flew to the Central
States Show. Woke up the next morning, feeling
totally Paralysed (sp) in my neck and back.

Turns out, it was my "first old-age chronic condition" -
I had irritated and swollen my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th
vertibrea's in my neck, and it took thearapy and
chicropractor work to make me as close to normal
    as I can be.

To this day, and probably for the rest of my life,
my neck gets sore and stiff, with sometimes
minor headaches if I sleep in the wrong position,
or look down reading too long, etc.

Aside from slicing my fingers every 5 years or so
opening up my Brinks/Dunbar shipments at coin
shows, that's been my biggest coin related injury.

The other day while metal detecting around a 19th century farmhouse site, I got a strong coin signal (quarter or large cent). Unfortunately, it was next to a hive of yellowjackets in the ground, which I did not hear due to wearing headphones. I was disturbing the ground just one foot from their hole, kicking leaves and grass away in preparation for digging. Bees don't appreciate it when you do that. The damage was minimal- just one sting and a few bees chasing me through a meadow- but I could not retrieve the coin. I will return in December to steal their loot while they're asleep.image I did manage to find an 1862 Indian and a slick colonial copper nearby, though.

It's funny really but despite the vast amount of time I've spent with
coins and the unusual number of calamities and injuries I've suffered
there are none cause by coins!!! Even indirect injuries don't seem to
    exist.

I suppose I should just stick with coins. image

The only one even remotely related was when I first got a PC in Sept
of 2001. I bought an office chair that wasn't entirely comfortable and
neglected to find another use for it before I got a back ache. But this
was even before I joined here and used the computer for a wider var-
    iety of things.

About 30 years ago, while removing a mint Walking half from a 2x2 with a pocket knife, I gouged the rim of the coin. The coin has been buried in a safe deposit box ever since, can't bear to look at it.

Viewing an incredibly lustrous coin under a halogen light and tilted it the wrong way, the experience was blinding and I saw spots for a while.
