nice bank find

I was at my bank trading in my rejects from my latest round of roll searching. When I was done the teller said, "don't go away yet. Michael (another teller) has something for you." Ususally this means they have a silver certificate or an Ike. Imagine my suprise when Michael showed me all the coins in the picture. He asked if I wanted them and all I could say was "Hell yeah!" 400 silver dimes, three 1964, one 1968 and one 1969 Kennedy all for $42.50. Nice! "image

I was thinking the same thing but the teller is a man so flowers or chocolate aren't really appropriate. Any other ideas?

Gift card for food nearby? Something in the same strip mall as the bank would be nice if there is decent food there.

Wow. You suck, and your teller reigns supreme. Buy those folks a pizza one day, and keep 'em as your scouts!

I don't understand why a teller would give away all of that silver. Are people that ignorant, or are the tellers not allowed to keep it?

The tellers at the banks I go to look at me like I am speaking another language when I ask for rolls of coins. And I heve yet to meet one who understands the word un-circulated.

I don't know if certain banks forbid the tellers from cherrypicking or not. Maybe a few. Sometimes they know the coins are worth more than face value but just don't care that much. My credit union's head teller is smart and she scored me a small hoard of 40% Kennedies once, but that is about the only time I have gotten half dollar rolls of any kind. In most of the other local banks I have visited, I get that bovine, confused, "You want WHAT?" expression.

Most tellers I talk to know that silver coins are good but they have no idea what to do with it. The teller I was dealing with holds on to anything that looks old, but Roosevelts and Kennedies probably look too ordinary and are not worth his time.

When it comes to bank tellers, most don't give a cr@p about coins or paper money. My local teller has saved silver, old notes, and star notes for me and everytime I offer to give them some money for the finders fee. They don't except it? I guess they don't understand people collect this stuff? image

I surely don't understand it either. Good for you! But if I was a teller at that bank I'd ask for permission, take 42-etc. in paper out of my wallet, and do the exchange to my benefit... free money, if it's not against the bank's rules.

I understand that as single dimes come in, but 400 silver dimes is worth about 350 bucks over face and those in the pic look better than junk. Seems like that would be worth most peoples time.

WTG--Being nice pays off. Remember the thread by the guy that took in a $1000 worth of halves all the time and acted like he owned the place. I don't think he would have gotten these.

Yes. I was just in the right place at the right time. Without our willing accomplices on the other side of the bank counter, roll searching would not exist. Three cheers for the tellers!

Gotta love those tellers that look out for you. They really can be your best friend.

I highly doubt they didn't know what they were, and how much they're worth. They wouldn't have saved them if they thought they were dimes.
