<< <i>What is a YN doing with a bunch of high price coins?
    >>

What is the age range for a YN??? under 18?? under 25?? under 30???

    Just wondering...

If under 18 is the general rule, then yes, the YN is probably getting some help from another party. Otherwise, there are plenty of us in the 18-30 range who own several "high price" coins.

  • << <i>Here is my response:
    1) I am a YN.
    2) I am not good at taking photos and they are not meant to be deceiving.
    3) I am not a crook.
    4) I have no clue who "seatedlibertykeys" even is?
    5) Not all coins need certified if you guarantee authenticity in my opinion
    6) Thanks FishyOne for the comment...where are the rest of people that I have made very successful transactions with?
    7) Michael Dixon, I sent you a PM and will probably take you up on your offer
    8) The Buffalo Nickel was sold as "MS-64 in MY opinion" , also I sincerely believe that the coin shouldn't have BB'd at PCGS. The coin sold for a MS-60 price so no harm done...Also, the winning bidder I believe is putting together a Dansco set I believe...Coins do not need certified to be in a Dansco and this is an absolute great coin for a Dansco. If he does not like it he can return it as I told him...
    9) I have decided that from now on I will get expensive ($1000+) coins certified before selling unless I give a money back guarantee that it will grade XX.
    10) I would like to know what the popcorn is for?
    11) Hope I can learn more about grading so I get better at it...When I get the age of you all I should be betterimage
    12) Out of the people that I have sold or traded with I have had no complaints that the solution was not resolved.
13)I invite everyone to join my giveaway that I will start in two weeks on the forum...Please let me know what kind of coin you would like to be given away...image >>

A recommendation to #8 then. Don't put a "No Returns" Policy on auctions if you are going to allow returns. By placing "No returns" it appears that you may indeed be a crook who is willing to shove off all undesirables to unsuspecting buyers.

As to #12, it implies to me in many cases that things were not right the first time.

I have been offered many coins from coinsareneat, and 99% of the time, they are overgraded. He knows this, but still assigns grades that are 10-15 points higher. Some of the large cents I bought from him did turn out to be much lower than indicated. I do not know him personally and he might be a great guy, but frankly, I would not buy anything from him.

    Just my three cents.

Same here. I bought a bunch of semikey Lincolns from Coinareneat on BST, all overgraded, rather than F with it, I just called it a lesson and swore off future transactions. This evening I received a PM from Coinsareneat offering to " right " me on the deal, and I will take that offer. Righting past wrongs is the first step.

  • From what I understand...Joe (coinsareneat) is 14 years old and received these higher priced coins from his grandfather...not sure if he has passed away or if he has just handed them down. I have had a few pms with him, but have not done any transactions with him. Not trying to defend anything questionable he may be involved with, just wanted to input the info I have been given.

What would a 14 y.o. be doing selling expensive coins on eBay? CoinsAreNeat (eBay: worldstampsplusmore) has a bunch of items on eBay again with a "no returns" policy.

  • A contract is not binding in most states with anyone under 18. Please keep this in mind when buying high ticket priced coins.

Not sure why it took me so long to find this thread. image

So, I need to set the record straight.
The first time I dealt with Joe (CoinsAreNeat), he was interested in trading some coins for BU/Proof SAE's in a Dansco album.
Reading some of he previous posts I could not pull the trigger on the trade without seeing his coins first.
The 'jewel' of his was a half-cent the Joe insisted was a graded AU55/58.
The rest of the coins he would add to meet the value I was asked for would be 'no problem' coins. This was repeated numerous times.
The coins that were added has issues, one being returned for obvious PCV damage & was returned.
Joe was willing to accept 10 less BU SAE's to compensate.

Also, I DID NOT buy the Buffalo in question.
This was sent to me to submit/buy.
If the coin graded I would purchase it.
If it did not, I would present an offer.
As we all know, the coin did not grade, I submitted an offer & it was rejected.
NO LOSS FOR ME.....Joe even paid return postage.

What do I think of Joe?
If he is to stay here, LEARN, LEARN, LEARN.
Learn to spot what are considered problems (rim hits, PVC, harsh cleaning, etc.).
Not a bad guy, just a young kid, making young kid type statements.

What would I say if you want to deal with Joe, if you can (and if you've been here long enough to be 'trusted') get raw coins on approval.
At the very least, money back agreement.
I think Joe would not have a problem with that.

Does not disclosing a coin BB for 'Altered Surfaces' mean the seller is a crook?
I would feel more comfortable in agreeing if PCGS would actually say what was wrong with the coin......is the issue something that can be fixed with an Acetone dip, or is it something that cannot be 'fixed'?

Since PCGS will not 'net grade', or at least add a grade on the label that they sick on the flip, who's to say that the Buff is not a 64??
I saw it in hand & it was nice.

It does not mean Joe is a crook, it means Joe took a known bodybag and intentionally failed to disclose it

Who says the coin is not a 64?

PCGS said the coin cannot grade at MS-64

If here to learn, thats great , and his offer to refund me on the overgrading is great too, although I bought the coins with no pics....my fault there, I also learned a lesson here. Just because it is a CU forum member, use all the same caution you would use on Ebay, or anywhere else at anytime. Trust, but verify.

Thanks Joe for offering to make my transaction right.

  • I agree. I hope Joe follows through with his promises and I wish him the best.
  • Was the seller intending to make your purchase right due to the fact that you were not happy, or was it in response to this thread?

I have never dealt with this seller, but I give everyone 1 chance. So until Im burned, I have no opinion.

I made no effort to pursue it.
Joe came to me to make it right, a plus in my book and a step in the right direction, but it did not happen untill this thread came to light.

  • Thats a good thing. But, if this thread wasnt started, would he have offered to make things right?

I agree, offering to make them right is a great start.

Honestly, I think he is as described. A kid who's learning the ropes, I have no problem with a beginner making mistakes and learning along the way, we all did. He is looking to fix things, thats what matters most in my opinion.
    " YOU SUCK " Awarded 5/18/08
  • I agree.

I like raw coins personally, and grading is tricky to get the hang of. Luckily he is in the right place to learn some of the things that he needs to about grading.

Usually, when I deal with raw coins, I grade a bit conservatively. I like the buyer to be pleased with a coin, and if it arrives better than thought, I know I have a happy buyer.

Personally speaking, I find that being straightforward in our dealings (interacting) with others, treating everyone with dignity & respect < the way we ALL hope to be treated> - stating the Facts, just telling the Truth - works best!

There are far too many "educated people" here for any would be seller to be anything less than ethical and or a man of his Word!

Such sellers that look to pull fast ones on others WILL INEVITABLY BE EXPOSED! If one just calls it like it is, stands behind his offerings and offers a No-Nonsense Money Back Guarantee ( NOT to be confused with being a "nice guy" that allows people to return items once "bidders' remorse" sets in, especially when top-tier 3rd party certified coins are involved) word WILL get out and people will be comfortable dealing with such sellers!

We ALL have surfed the bay and most can spot established, reputable sellers just as we can the not so ethical ones. I know that when I surf the bay I can spot sellers peddling problematic pieces as well as those that use certain catch phrases and or disclaimers, even shillers and I quickly dismiss any & all thoughts of dealing with such!

TRUE - ebay is fraught with many "bad sellers", however there are several good ones out here too. Preying upon, or seeking to prey upon innocent, trusting people, inexperienced newcomers with conveniently out of focus pictures, coins that are tilted in ways that attempt to hide certain "issues" coins may have, especially RAW coins, such sellers will be found out & exposed by disgruntled buyers in the words people freely choose to use in feedback or here by people that are on the ball.

Such sellers cannot see that they will be discovered an outed. The good thing about such sellers IS that they inevitably drive would be buyers TO the better, well established sellers!

It makes absolutely NO SENSE to try to pull fast ones on people. Some people simply have thick skulls but nothing upstairs! BUYERS BEWARE! Always take the time to consider the source! If it seems too good to be true - it generally IS .... too good to be true!

Just my observations and most humble opinions! image

doesn't ebay require sellers to be 18 years old? I think some have been NARU'd for failing to meet that age requirement.

There is a glaring problem with this statement "Who says the coin is not a 64? PCGS said the coin cannot grade at MS-64"
How many previously BB'd coins get resubmitted and then wind up in a TPG holder? Just do a search for these type of threads and you see it happens all the time, so imo the above statement is wrong. The grader at the time felt this coin had altered surfaces. If it was resubmitted again, who is to say it would get BB'd again?

I am not saying the coin has or does not have a problem, I'm just saying grading is subjective and the coin could be problem free, and for some reason got BB'd this time.
