Oldest Cent Find In Circulation Ever
Yesterday I bought $50 worth of cents in rolls in boxes. By the near the end of the second box I came up with my oldest Lincoln find ever in a box:

image

Unfortunately Lincoln has an apparent gun shot wound in his cranial region, but this coin does have the VDB. In the last year I have gotten a couple of 1910's but never a 1909. This coin is 99 years old, just incredible, what with the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln cent next year, to find one from the first year in a box bought at the bank.

So the date runs of the finds go as following:

1909 VDB, but of course
1919
1928
1929
1934
1940
1941 X 2
1944 X 3
1945
1946 X 4
1949-D
1953-D
1955-D
1957-D X 2
1958

San Francisco
1968
1969 X 7
1970 X 5
1974

Canada
George VI
1939

Elizabeth II
1953
1956
1959 X 2
1961
1962 X 2
1963 X 3
1964 X 5

Awesome!!! Never got a 1909 in circulation myself image

My oldest cent finds in actual circulation when engaged in a transaction was a 1907 IHC with VG details, slightly bent. Got it in change in the drive thru back in 2004!!! Was thrilled about that.

My oldest found in roll searching was a 1901 IHC in VG-F or so. Pulled that earlier this year in only my 2nd box of $25 ever searched!!! Was told that is very unusual to find those, so I won't get my hopes up in finding many more, but I'll keep looking!!!

I got a 1919 earlier this year. I think it may have been in someone's collection as every detail is present. it's clean with no dings or major scratches, and is a nice solid brown color.

It's in my permanent collection now image

My earliest find is also 1909 for the Cents. A 1909 plain Lincoln, no VDB, but the VDB ones came out first so technically you still win. Stories have been told of people finding Indian Cents.

    Aside from the 1909, I have found two 1910's, a 1912, a 1914, a 1916-D(two weeks ago), several 1918's and a 1919-S and the 1919. Great Grandparents pennies are still circulatingimage

1887 Indian is the oldest. I got 2 1909 Lincolns within a 1 week period. Still have all of these.

You're tied with me, now. My oldest cent find in circulation (my oldest circ find, period) was a 1909 "plain" cent.

But mine came out of my mother's change purse in 1977 or so, and was an AG. So for you to find a better example (digs or not) more than thirty years later is an accomplishment.

You can sell that on eBay as a "John Wilkes Booth" variety, just like some people focus on Kennedy halves with die cracks or damage near the back of the head. image

About a week ago I went by the bank and picked ten rolls of pennys and about mid way through the rolls I found a 1891.
Found one from the 40's one from the 50's and many from the 60's, also one 2008.
