1st up is a 1913 D type 1 2 Feather variety What is up with the D mintmark?

    The D is because of a grease filled die.

    This is quite common on the 13-D. It's known as a filled mint mark but not due to grease. The center of the D chipped off the die thus no metal was displaced at the time the coin was struck.

    Big pix took too long to load.

    What I was able to see looked quite nice, however.

    You see those filled letters pretty often on half dimes when the die begins to chip and fail. I've never seen one on a Buff before, but I would guess it's the same type of thing.
