I would think that if metal squished out of the edge, then a full pressure was not really developed on the coin, as there was a place for the metal to flow?
Can you speak about strikes and errors like this?
<< <i>Does the strike usually suffer or get altered in some way on coins like this?

I've added additional pics that will speak for themselves...
as you see all the striking details are full
Ultra cool. What is the largest denomination error gold you have?
<< <i>Fascinating. Then it's probably just a little bit thinner? I'm sure you cannot measure; it's in a slab.

Nope can't measure though the slab
Here's a Partial Tilted Collar $50 in a PCGS MS69 holder, which needs to go into a Edge View holder to really see the error.
I knew it would happen.

Wow, I thought this title was sarcastic. I can see now it isn't.
I wish MY mistakes were worth a lot of money.
I'd be mega-rich by now.
Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
<< <i>would someone please teach BS how to grade so the poor guy can pick out a quality coin for a change?! >>
<< <i>Broadstruck, I don't know if you ever saw this one of mine when I posted it awhile back. It's now in a PCGS DCAM PR-69 slab, but for the life of me, I can't see what kept it from a PR-70 grade - unless it was simply the offcenter strike.
What did PCGS designate this as a Finned Rim... as it's not Off Center
<< <i>You must spend 25 hours a day looking for the weird stuff you find.... amazing.. Cheers, RickO >>
Maybe only 22
It shows you how much I don't know! Yes, they designated it a finned rim. I guess that there's a difference.

I've never seen a Proof or MS 70 mint error in a PCGS holder... in NGC armor I have seen one.
As always Broad Eagle nice coins, I love any error because I was told when only 6 years old I was a mistake.
