My main point is the very limited use I get out of the site (I was only tracking about a dozen cards). I do believe it is a great site (that could use better search mechanisms) for those that are active in building graded card sets. I am not the target customer but for those that are (and are active), it is recommended.
As far as changes to eBay, same thing applies. I have basically stopped selling for a variety of reasons and will only put up a few more auctions this fall.
In my professional life, I deal a lot with cost/benefit and I extend that to my personal life as well.
I get a chuckle out of some of the folks here that demonstrate a complete lack of comprehension. Can you read and understand the facts or do you just like to selectively comment on the posts that are ill informed and inaccurate because they make a better read? Too many lemmings in my opinon.
The price increase DOES NOT happen mid-subscription! If you have paid for your subscription, you ONLY pay the increase upon renewal. This isn't rocket science and Bobby has been generous enough to mention that if you add additional years, assuming that you plan to utilize this service going forward (and I would expect the site's speed to increase as well as the functionality and services), then it would be very cost effective to add additional years at the current discount knowing full well that there will probably be additional increases in the coming years.
To those that suggest that they can get the same information from eBay or Google, good luck. eBay has drastically curtailed their search function and carryover time on completed auctions and word is that they are planning on implementing an additional service that will allow access to closed auctions for an ADDITIONAL FEE!
As a collector, I have found the services of VCP to be quite beneficial. Not only can I see what items that I am interested in have traded at for, but I can also view images of each item to compare them to what I am bidding on. I can also see who my competition may or may not be. This has saved me much more than my subscription cost.
I just added a year last night at the current price level and may add another before the increase.
To those that want to bash this service or complain about the speed, keep in mind, it will only get better. I have yet to hear a legitimate complaint about the service other than the speed of the system. Everything else has been hearsay or completely untrue.
Alas, it seems that many here just want an axe to grind and need a target to throw it at.
Bobby, you've got a great service and I, and many here, thank you for it. I can't wait for the rollout of the new features and will be laughing at those that end up coming back "tomorrow" and having to pay more while they're busy bashing "today!"
** Editted to correct spelling (at least some of it)
I'm going to keep paying monthly(I haven't decided which level yet). I used a new feature they were testing a week or two ago that some may be interested in if it becomes a full-time feature.
BTW Bobby, is it back up and running ( I haven't been bidding on any graded mat'l for a few weeks)?
I personally can care less about the price increase. I also like to say its a great site and was very beneficial. For me personally its just too slow for now. If the speed of the site improves I will be back in a heartbeat.
<< <i>no chit? I was wonder why some featured said VIP and I couldnt see them...and my account says VIP?

I have the VIP subscription, too and haven't noticed any limitations. Are you talking about the beta-testing features that some of us are using? They're beta and not rolled out to the subscribers, yet.
<< <i>I think VCP is a great, very useful service, both for bidders and sellers. That said, I just don't see many people forkng over $17.99 a month to use it. >>
I agree 100%. Not a bad service but an 80% jump for what used to be the normal service is just not going to fly long term. People are looking closely at what they spend each month on non-essential items, and such a large increase could be a disaster to VCP, especially in a soft economy.
since i started the thread i wanted to chime back in.
although i still did not see the add a year function i emailed bobby and within minutes he showed me another way to renew. his customer service was first rate.
i don't know if i'll be alive in two years but i may just add another year because of his professionalism. five years would get quite expensive. actually a lot of subrciption services allow members to lock in at old rates prior to increases. xm radio did this for me as well as there are magazines that do the same.
if there was any misunderstanding to whether prices would go up in midstream he has clarified it. it could have easily been interpeted that there would be an increase prior to the end but we now know different.
i have not had much trouble with speed and it is a very helpful service.
VCP is a must have for me (I buy lots of graded vintage cards), the my collection along is worth the monthly price to me. While I never like to pay more, i will have no problem going to the 17.99/month service.
Just to let all of you know and if you did not see it before you can all extend you membership terms up to 5 years for $99.99 each year. You will get the GOLD membership that gives you full access to everything. The new rates should be in place by August 1st and this same membership will cost $179.99 a year. So take advantage of the offer because there are only a few more days left.
<< <i>Right now would be the perfect time to implement the tracking of some of the more modern stuff. Add cards form the 1990's at the very least. >>
I agree add this stuff and I would renew my membership. You don't have to add every set but key stars from the 90's such as Jordan, Griffey, A-Rod would be great!
Bobby...it's a battle you're not going to win around here. This is just this week's "the sky is falling" thread in the spirit of ebay's fees rising, PSA doing away with guaranteed service times, PSA adding the .5 grade, etc.
Some people just need something to complain about. Some people need to chime in and make ridiculous comments about cancelling a great service because it went up $3 per month. If people are playing their collections that close to the penny, maybe they should think about a different hobby.

<< <i>It is a good service if one actually makes use of it. >>
I absolutely agree. I will likely cancel the service soon as I will be focusing on selling more than buying in the near future. I just won't use the service enough over the next few months to have it make sense to keep the service. I'll just sign back up when I'm back to buying. No service is worth paying for if you're not going to use it. (except insurance)
What an idiotic statement. There is value in listing the history of Mars Attacks sets. People collect that stuff. Some of them in PSA 10 would sell for more than a PSA 10 Carew RC. He would be stupid to not list all of the cards he could. Why would he want to limit his content to just what YOU collect?
I agree that obviously nobody is going to love a price increase, but when you consider that every printed price guide is pretty useless when compared to the actual sales that VCP tracks, the service is well worth it.

I believe the subscription you created in Paypal will be adjusted to the new rate once you select the membership type you want, GOLD or SILVER.
In the next couple of weeks when you log in there will be a yellow ICON that when you click will explain everything and you choose from there. If you ignore the ICON then I believe a week before you are due to be billed again a window will pop up and you will then have to choose because you will not be able to use the website until you do.
It is not such a bad thing losing some auctions then over paying and winning them all. The important thing I tell people is to look at the past history of sales for how often they come up in auction. If you see one comes up every week then don/t sweat it and put in a lower snipe. If it comes up not so often every other month or so then make a stronger go for it.
