Seriously, tell him you already spent some of the cash.
The prik deserves it.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
I would still consider purchasing the cards, eventhough he did jerk you around.
If you are confident in your original offer of $3k regarding condition, then I would offer it again. He may have been a dick, but you could make money at the end.
My best suggestion is to take emotion out of it. Feel free to give a smart a** response, but it may end up working out in your favor in the end if you don't. That probably didn’t help, but that’s all I got.
You guys are insane. You think you're sticking it to this clown by buying the set, even if it's a lower price?
Forget it. He strung Ron along, lied to him to get the price up, and disrespected him in every possible way a seller could. I do my best to get people like this out of my life. If there ever comes a time where I put cards or money ahead of my pride, you might as well cut my balls off.

No disrespect towards our fellow residential real estate professionals but...
The dude is a scummy Realtor, what did you expect? He's going to sell them eventually, right?
So buy them at a nice discount and stick it to the man

Another thing, this guy might have had this money from the sale already spent himself so he might be willing to take a little hit on his price instead of nothing or waiting around for offers. Just another 1 cent of my input..
<< <i>If somebody tried to sell me a house in this manner, I'd have been out of the bidding within a day. Life is not a flea market. >>
If we were talking about a house, I would completely agree with you.
But, it's only $2,500 with a good chance of being worth $5K+.
Don't hate the player, hate the game

I agree with Stown. Youre right too Lee, the guy is a tool for stringing him along. So, its obvious that this guy has no respect for Ron. So a professional transaction is out of the question. I say insult him with a lower than original offer. Worst he can do is say no, and then he will be out of your hair.

<< <i>stown, one of the conditions of me allowing you to quote me in your sig line is that you have to agree with me no matter what. >>
I agree with Stown. Offer him 25 or even 2750 tops. If he takes it, keep meticulous records of your sales and profits and then when you're all done, inform him politely just how much money you made off of his sorry arse.
Truth be told, if the National wasn't just around the corner and I didn't think that I could flip the Bowmans for a profit, I wouldn't have bothered with this at all. I know a prominent national dealer who needs them in his inventory and is paying aggressive prices. Oh well.

if you can turn them for a profit then take them. offer a few hundred less - the ball is in your court now. but why not make a buck if you can. you've put a lot of time into this and should buy them if you want to.
from a dealer standpoint, i wouldnt deal with him at this point. he was very unprofessional. he apparently doesnt have any ethics, but if you want to play his game, simply offer him $2500 for the bowman. you dont need to make any excuses. your initial offer was refused so it is no longer on the table. give him a deadline also. for instance, your offer expires at the end of friday.
I think we have all run into arseholes like this in our hobby. Name of the game is MONEY. Consider the cards, what you are spending and how much you can make. Taking these at 3K may give you the shot at some of his other stuff. Certainly hit him below the belt when he comes back to you for more. Yup, he's a dick but we have to deal with them every day.
ron- when considering this deal, forget about what else he has. he can string you along too easily if there is any false hope of getting the 1956s. disregard them all together. if you proceed with the bowman, it has to make sense on its own merit. actually, at this point it should be a no brainer or walk away.
Tell him you want to look at them 1 more time, and ACCIDENTLY fold the Mays, Mantle, and Campy cards in half. Then decline the offer and tell him to kiss your ass, your wife's ass, and your dog's ass.
don't screw yourself to screw him, make an offer and tell him that's all... then do what you have to do. get the cards if you can and move on maybe try to get the 69, 59 and the others in one big deal with an offer, your now in the driver seat the other buyer is gone (if there was one) and your here with your cash!!!
let's make a deal!!!!!!! myabe drew carey can show up for you and that could be his first show taping of the price is right!!!!!
good luck

collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.
looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started
In short, the guy wound up being more desperate to sell the set than I had believed. I told him to pound sand, and he called me 3 or 4 times afterwards and I bought the set.
Then, I got into an imbroglio when I flipped them at the National. This set was cursed. In 20+ years of collecting I've never had a more difficult time with two transactions. It wasn't worth the profit I made on them.

<< <i>Hard to do that seeing he already flipped them.

A rhubarb, tussle, or fracas?
Do tell us about the scrum at the National.
It seems there is usually some type of dust up. Someone getting arrested for assault, Mr. Mint launching an autographed fastball at someone's back, etc.
This sounds interesting, I hope you care to elaborate on what went down.

I was getting concerned when the date changed from Wednesday, July 25th to Saturday, July 26th. Thursday and Friday were a blur.....but I guess I need to remember to read the year as well.
This may explain why some of my offers on the BST board went unanswered.
