Probably just a little. May be searching for some positive feedback.
Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

  • That's what I don't understand. I bought a P&D set of Arizona quarters on eBay for $1.70 shipped recently. How much is the seller actually making? It costs at least 42 cents to ship. With Paypal fees he loses probably another 32 cents or so. eBay fees can't be cheap, in comparison, either. He might be making what, 20 cents? 25 cents? Thst just doesn't seem to be worth it to me.

This is just a feedback scam.

I have sold low cost coins on Ebay. Pennies and the like for $0.50 + S&H. I do it because it's fun. But Paypal takes like $0.35+3%. Listing fees are another couple of dimes. So in the end, if I charged enough for S&H I'd come out ahead by a quarter (not counting my time, my gas or my packing materials).

I sort of had to give up on this type of auction. The new feedback system precludes a high mark for shipping unless it's FREE SHIPPING. I can afford that if I sell a more expensive coin, but not for a $0.50 BIN item.

My problem is that I can't bring myself to just toss $30 in pennies (mix of Canadian, wheaties, Lincoln's) in the trash where the belong. I keep thinking someone really needs that 1934 VG Canadian cent for their set. And the do, I've sold a handful.

I have the same problem with about 1000 NZ and Australian large pennies and half pennies. I'm going to be forever selling these darn things. I guess I should gang them together in a small lot and have like $5.00 BINs on the lot.

The link at the top of this post is purely a feedback scam.
  • I think he is setting up for some big time scams.

Agreed is setting up a to scam at some point. Counting on buyers that look only at numbers that dont read feedback and look at the items being sold previously.

Maybe. On the other hand, I think there are a lot of people selling on Ebay who are losing money (or at best, wasting their time), and don't realize it.
  • Agree the seller is trying to get feedback up, but there could be other drivers other than just setting up for a scam.

The seller could be trying to improve their seller ratings in the categories they are currently low in.

Also, the seller may be planning to sell a number of higher priced items and is testing the market. Specifically, they have five or so of the exact same listings up rights now, one wheat cent. By examining how many viewers, watchers, and bids they receive for the EXACT same auction they can determine if a three day, five day or seven day listing is better. Is closing the auction at night getting more views or is the auction closing at noon, or dinner time? Does a Monday close net more vies than a Sunday close, etc.

Best to not assume the most nefarious motives of our fellow folks (though it IS more entertaining).

    Just a thought.

I recently posted a boatload of 49 cent auctions, just to get my new store name out there and drive traffic to the site....... a typical Ebay listing under 99 cents costs .15 and the paypal .30..........it is not always a scam

  • He might just want to get his feedback up over 100 positives and then start selling his actual inventory.

I would presume he's just "investing" a few bucks in feedback.

The really crazy part is... bidders are FAR FAR FAR more afraid of a seller with only 33 positive feedbacks at 100% positive, then they are of a seller at 97.8% positive with 33 negatives this month!
