UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUggggghhhhh

I was in line at the bank and some old lady cashed in 50 morgan and peace dollars, I asked her to sell them to me, she looked at me like I was from Mars.

I went to that teller and asked for them, she smiled and said NO CHANCE!

UUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHHH I tried politely and quietly to tell the old lady they were worth more than $1 dollar but she did not want to hear it.

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH so close but yet so far.

And you wonder how dealers can possibly turn a profit!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!

Being a teller doesn't pay all that well, but the bennies can be first-rate...

Why didn't you offer her more than face?? You should have just said, "I'll give you $5 a piece for them."

She might think you're crazy but she's not stupid, $5 is better than $1.

She would have though she was taking candy from a baby.
  • That's extremely frustrating, and she just got taken big time by the bank teller. The bank teller (who told you NO CHANCE), should have informed her of their real value.

I did offer her more, but I did not want to cause a scene either, as I was in my work uniform.

So the cashier puts in $50 and sells them for $20x50 = $1000.....

LOL, that old lady should have listened to you. I mean she must have hard times cashing in those dollars BUT she still didn't want to hear your "conspiracy" theory.

I guess the jokes on her.... it's sad.

Well, at least you didnt overhear the teller saying "wow, this ones a 93 S, and this ones a 89 CC, and WOW, this ones an 1895"

I think I would have run in front of a train at that point.............

Hey - at least you've got a good story out of it.

    Sorry to hear this.

I feel the same way since I've been waiting on a coin for 16 days.
16 days since the auction ended, and 5 or 6 days when the seller shipped.

If that were the case I would have grabbed the coins and ran away. By the time they caught up with me I would be over medicated and in the care of a good lawyer, er.....I mean doctor. The alleged stolen coins would be in my home (all 50 common date ones).

My younger daughter....totally bored with retail, recently applied at most of the banks in the area for a teller position.

Of course, they are not hiring.

I totally supported her and was ready to write out a "be on the lookout for" list.image

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Next time you'll win!

I was at the post office yesterday mailing out some coins to some winning eBay bidders and the lady at the counter started talking about some coins she was left.

She said she had about $500 in "old silver quarters from the 1800's", and lots more coins. So I ripped of a part of the receipt and asked her to give me a call and I would see what I could do for her. Then as I'm leaving she says she has $5,000 in face value of all of the old coins and currency she was left and she just hasn't had time to go to the coin shop.

Maybe that will all work out ok, and I'll get some nice coins/good deals.

    Just keep your eyes open.

When I used to do direct sales, we had a saying; "Some will, some won't, who cares, next"

I do wish you would have gotten them from the lady and made her day and your better though!

Should have gone to the bank president and told him about the teller,
tried to have them contact the lady and tell her they are worth much more than face
I hate banks that say they help people and do stuff like this

Luckily the local banks tell people about my shop when the have old coins

image So sad for the elderly lady. Maybe she has 5000 more at home and your interest, may have gotten her thinking. Try a coin shop nextimage....May turn out OK in the end

I think you need to befriend a local news reporter. They would jump all over the P.C. of exposing the bank teller and the bank for their failure to act in a morally ethical manner with regard to the little old lady. A simple reminder to the bank manager about the consequences of the media exposure and how it could mean a much greater loss of business than the personal gain of that teller.image
