Do you ask for feedback?

If you have sold something and you have left positive feedback or you bought something and left positive but the buyer/seller has not left you any feedback do you ask a question asking for the buyer/seller to leave you feedback?

I normally don't do this as I don't like it when I am asked to leave feedback. But with the changes I am starting to do this in a polite way hoping that my buyer's and seller's I have bought from will leave me feedback.

I feel like as a seller feedback should be left as soon as payment has been received and as a buyer I should leave feedback when I have received the item and satisfied with the item.

What are your thought's on this?

As a seller I'll send a polite note such as: "Just a quick note to make sure the coins arrived safely. Please just hit reply or
leave feedback and let me know. Thanks, bob"

I haven't done it as a buyer as of yet.

  • As a buyer, I am sometimes neglecting in my feedback and the sellers will eventually ask me to leave them feedback; I don't have a problem with that. I'd say the percentage that ask is around 25% to 35%.

As a seller, I do not ask for feedback.

My last sale consisted of 10 coins and I sent each buyer a friendly e-mail letting them know their coin had been shipped and asked them to please leave feedback when the coin arrived to their satisfaction.(9 out of the 10 left positive feedback right away)and the other buyer has not, even after I e-mailed him/her to see if they were happy with the coin, and again asked them to leave feedback so I would know the transaction was completed.

As a buyer and seller, I will contact either and say, " Please don't forget to leave me feedback, as I have done for you".
It generally generates a positive response.

I don't ask. If they weren't happy enough to post, they might give me 4s. Even ithout this concern, I don't need more numbers so I wouldn't bother.--jerry

Don't ask, but when I receive the coin I let them know that it was received and feedback was left. This is sort of a gentle reminder to respond in kind. If its from a power seller who leaves the same comment for everyone its no big deal if he forgets or chooses not to.

  • I too usually leave feedback as soon as the buyer pays, and thank them in any communication. I figure most buyers already know about the feedback protocols of eBay, so I don't ask for feedback. If they choose to leave feedback, that's great, but if they don't (and it doesn't happen often) that's OK, too. I'm not big into the numbers game.

  • Our packing slip asks the buyer to leave feedback when it arrives so we know it made it and they're pleased. We don't leave feedback anymore until we receive it, for the very reason I wrote about in the other post today.

I very much dislike being asked for feedback but do understand when a newbie asks for it. We've left a good many more than we've received over the years but would never think of writing to beg for it. I know it may be annoying not to receive feedback but when I look at most people's record who don't leave it, they're not singling us out - they just don't leave it. Sooo, they don't get it either!

Everyone has had different ebay experiences, learned a few lessons with time, and adjusted the way they do things to suit them. I'm not judging - and when asked for it, I leave it quickly and positively.

Just please give big sellers a week or 2 to catch up. With shows every weekend and running a B&M, that honestly gets pushed to the back burner sometimes.

Have bought and sold on BST, many references available when asked.

I always leave feedback as a buyer. As a seller, sometimes I wait, sometimes I go ahead; I would bet 20% do not leave feedback even if I do first. I NEVER ASK THOUGH. MIGHT AGITATE THEM. Often, it seems the buyer is waiting for me to leave + feedback and then the next day, they reciprocate. Seems like there is a lot of hesitation and skittishness re: getting burned w/out cause and no recourse from ebaY.

This is a sure way to get Positive Feedback,

Email the buyer and say, HI I am wondering since I saw buy USPS delivery conformation I had on your package that you recieved your item. If everything is to your liking, could you please leave me Positive feedback as I did for you to complete and close our transaction on ebay. Again I want to thank you for buying a item from me and great collecting on the Bay. Bless Yaha

I have always got a Positive feedback this way within 24 hrs.

    Hope this helps.

No ... I do not follow up requesting F/B if one was not left from a buyer, but will do so, if the seller has not done so.

  • I wouldn't ask for feedback. I think it's not all that important compared with the actual sale. Quality and service- I know I did my part and did it well. I guess I figure that if there's a problem with it I'd hear about it.

However..... I leave feedback the same day as item I purchased is delivered. I'm just funny that way.image

I leave feedback for buyers when their item ships and and tell them so in the email I send them confirming shipment. That's the only time I ever mention feedback. I never ask for it- I'd consider it a waste of my time trying to keep track of who has and who hasn't left it.
  • I am just a buyer on the bay. I use paypal only and pay within minutes of the auction end.

I leave feedback EVERYTIME I recieve my purhase.

It disapoionts me when a seller doesn't leave me a feed back.

Personally, I think it is in poor taste to ask for feedback as much as it is not to leave feedback in the first place.

When I ship I email them to let them know thier coin(s) are on the way and I tell them to contact me if there is any problem with the coin(s) when they arrive or if they are satisfied to leave feeback on eBay.

I don't contact them about feedback again after that; if they don't want to leave feedback it's up to them.

I have never requested feedback, and sometimes just the opposite.

When I sell to a known reseller, I will ask them if they want feedback before I leave it. Most say NO thank you !!

I think asking for feedback is kind of like asking for a thank you. Just MHO though.

Indeed. I find it annoying that if you leave a page of feedbacks (25 or so) then it takes ebay 10 minutes to update and if you try to leave more you'll get the same list of buyers showing up that you just left feedback for. last night I figured out a better way:

Leave feeback from your "Sold" tab.

Click on Feedback recieved at the top of the column and sort by feedback status.

Click on the box to the left of each sale you want to leave feedback for.

Click feedback at the bottom of the page and you'll get several options.

  • Nope, I've had about 8 or 9 buyers that never left feedback and I let it go. I will not beg for feedback, it's up to the buyer and if he decides he doesn't want to leave feedback, I'm not going to harass him about it. He has the coin, I have the money........isn't that the point of it all?

No. When I buy something from a seller who does not leave feedback after a positive transaction I likely won't deal with them again though. It's their loss-nothing I buy is unique, there will always be another, and I'd rather my money goes to a seller who appreciates my buisness.
