Which 3 cent Nickel do you prefer?

[edit] It's a clash? Cool. Doesn't help me make my mind up.

The lighting looks different to me. I'm seeing shadows on #1 that I do not see on #2. It makes #1 looks like a stronger strike and i'm not so certain that is actually true.

i am liking #1

though... knowing that the trueviews sometimes give a washed out appearance... i have a feeling #2 looks much better in hand

Looks like I better let my wife choose more often. Narrowed it down to these two nickels my wife picked number one and I picked number two. So I just bought both.

BUT I also think#2 probably looks better in-hand.
The image looks washed out on #2, otherwise it would be a toss-up as I do like the toning on #2 if it was a bit more intense.

That is a tough call. I like the clash on #1 and I like the color on #2 so I would probably buy them both if I had the money.

I love them both. The first one is brighter and might have a touch better strike, but the toning on the second is very nice.

#2 if I had to choose.

they both appear to have really weak strikes (IMHO), but if it were an abolute decision between the two, I'd take #1

1865...I'm not a huge fan of streaky planchets like the second, although I own an 1875 3CN that's somewhat similar.

Neither. I would pass on both due to weak strikes. I also don't like the clash mark on the 1865.

These dates come fully struck. Why fool around with weak strikes, especially on common dates.
