2008 W American Buffalo Gold coins get a pretty new box.

On the Mint's sight, the new proof gold coin gets to be housed in "an elegant hardwood box with a matte finish and a faux leather inset. The coins are exhibited on a platform which can stand at an angle for display when the box is open." The unc. box doesn't get the added pop up feature.

Now we know why these carry such a high premium...box art!

If...in a more perfect world...the "platinum" coins should be housed in a custom carved box with gucci leather insert and coa of antique parchment.

Our boy Edmond gave an interview that was printed in Coin World a few months ago after he had been to a government coin festival, wherein he stated that more elaborate packaging was becoming the fabulous new concept in marketing coins. Cost be damned.

Think the Mint will sell the boxes separately? I'm becoming a box collector, the Coins are getting too expensive.

HEY, maybe the Mint could sell wooden Coin Replicas in the beautiful boxes - just for us tightwads out here.

Of course there is! As long as people pay for them. Ever watch Antiques Road Show? Very instructive. It does seem like a waste of resources to me, though, and they fill up the SBD way too fast!
