Whats up w/ this 1872 seated dollar planchet?

    I don't think it's a planchet problem, I think it's gunk.image

    Looks like the wreath fell off the back of an Indian Cent and got lodged on the Obverse die somehow.

    I'm 99% sure this didn't happen, but would be cool anyhow. I don't know what that is.

    I wonder if a really, really dirty coin was layed on it at one point for a long time, and some of the dirt transferred over to that one.

    It does not look like a laminated planchet whatsoever;
    I believe it's post-mint damage; some liquid on the
    surface of the coin has caused this effect.
