I love the PS 2 game "D" because it is a horror game where you have to solve puzzles. And you only have 2 hours to complete the game, either do it or don't.
But I am now hooked on Wii Golf that came with it. The thing that sucks is that there are only 3 holes. I wish they would come out with a whole game with different courses on it. I've tried other golf games, but the Wii one is the best.
Old school? I would have to say Megamania. I wasted countless hours of my childhood playing that game and loved every moment of it.

I do believe they have. But after researching it, I think it would be too complex. I read that you have to build confidence, and it affects how your shot goes along with other aspects you have to learn. When it comes to game, I guess I am still old school, I want it simple. I don't want to think about it, I just want to step up and swing, which is pretty much how the Wii Golf works.
Nam- You are correct Space Invaders was HUGE and was prior to Pac Man. However, in my opinion Pac Man is what really took video games to the masses. Books, T-shirts, the Pac Man Fever song, etc... were all created for Pac Man. Space Invaders is top 5 though! I would love to have one of them in my living room too! I have been debating about changing out my original video card and getting one that has 5 or 10 OLD skool games on it but have not done it yet. I think Space Invaders is one of the ones you can get. Of course I would also have to add a "fire" button to the Pac Man machine!
I have Tiger Woods 2007 for the Wii. It's WAY better than the one that comes with it. Pretty easy to pick up too. There are many different modes so you can jump right in and play if you want.

I have a Wii (when is a real TENNIS game coming out by the way??), but I can't get into the Tiger Woods on there. I used to shoot 48 st St. Andrews on the hardest settings on TW04/05/06...plus swinging a controller like a real club forces me to get off the couch - if I wanted to play golf (and I do play a lot for real), I would go out to the local muni and play. No need to swing a fake club in my living room.
Arcade Games, ya know with quarters thats true video gaming at it's finest. saunter up to the machine, stick your quarter on the machine to claim the next game....bring it on!
from my glory days at "Dream Machine" at the Mall
Zaxxon, Galaga, Defender, Street Fighter, Star Wars Pinball, Rollergames Pinball,Virtual Fighter,Mortal Kombat 2, Guns & Roses Pinball, and my all time favorite arcade game: Gauntlet..... Warrior shot the food!
on the home systems pretty much any star wars title, though im still partial to star wars battlefront and Halo 1 & 2.
p.s.
how did i forget RBI Baseball.....every day after school we would play! and........i dont know how many years ive wasted playing Command & conquer!
My favorites are Dragon's Lair, Zaxxon and Star Wars (they were big in the early-mid 1980's). One game of Star Wars I played lasted 6 1/2 hours. I reached the 105th level and accumulated 27 million points. The only reason the game ended was that the bar was closing and the manager told me she was going to shut off the power. I had to purposely end the game in order to put my name up on the all-time scores screen.
Missile Command (arcade). Once you get to 800,000 you get 100 free cities. When I was in college, I used to play the game for over an hour on 1 quarter. I have one now in my house... will get the damn thing fixed (again) one day.

Oh Christ, how could I forget Tapper? A game about a guy pouring beer for angry drunk people. And the joystick was a beer tap!!! i gotta get me one of them for my house when I'm rich.
dude!! that was my best friends dad's favorite game. Atari had this deal where if you scored a certain number of poitns, you could photograph the screen, and send it in for a River Raid jacket. So he gets the high score, takes a pic of the TV, and the pic comes back totally whited out!! He was so upset about it!!
As far as arcade games go Dragons Lair was awesome but the NES version was the worst game ever and I challenge anyone to prove me wrong. My all time favorite Arcade Games were

I had a version of that for the Sega Genesis, but it was Root Beer Tapper.
Phoenix brings backs alot of memories. Noone has mentioned Mr Do's Castle another great one.
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out was good until I learned how to beat Tyson, now I pop it in occasionally to see if I still can do it. Usually takes me about 5 times to get his pattern timed then its a TKO in the second round or if I get lucky and floor him in the first round a KO in the 3rd.
Baseball Stars was awesome. Never will forget the season me and my cousin played on it with our teams we had spent months building.
My team was playing the legends the game ended in the bottom of 4th inning when I scored my 100th run of the game. I was losing going into that inning 97-64 won it 99-97. My #4 hitter had 16 Homers in the game and 41 RBIs or some crap like that. I had another player with over 10HRs. The other team had a player with 15, and 2 with 12. I wish we had watched that game but it was set on skip we just saw the score and had to view the stats.
Tecmo Super Bowl I always played using the Chiefs. Deberg to Paige almost always a TD and Okoye was a monster in the game. Throw in Percy Snow on the D and it was brutal. Finished a season with Snow having around 300 sacks
Dig Dug is my fav, but I am a keeper of the Keys in Pacman.
I got to either 7th key or the 9th key. I can't recall. This was back about 1981. I actually got back into the keys a few years ago. Maybe 3rd or 4th. Haven't played much recently. Usually only have it on at parties. Too many beers, and people waiting to play, make it hard to go to the keys!
You guys are into guitar hero and rock band??? Just learn to play guitar!!!! Honestly, until a few weeks ago, I had no idea that adults played that game. There was a tournament here at work. People knew I played guitar and kept asking me why wasnt i playing Guitar Hero??? Because after all, it's the exact same thing.
So offensive >>
I've never run into ANYONE that thinks playing Guitar Hero is the same thing as playing a real guitar or anything even close. But I sure have run into a lot of people who play guitar that seem to be very offended by the game for some reason. They all say the same thing: "I won't play it because it's not like the real thing." Invariably, the person saying this plays other video games, like:
- Call of Duty 4 - NHL Hockey - Flight Simulator 10 - Madden
etc.
So what is it about Guitar Hero that gets you all bent out of shape because they're "not the real thing" but doesn't bug you about Madden? Oh, I get it - guitar is YOUR thing. You're not a football player so playing Madden doesn't offend you somehow. Ironically, REAL football players play Madden - how come you don't hear THEM complaining about people playing Madden like guitarists do about Guitar Hero?
And, at least with Rock Band on the drums, it IS the same thing. Simplified, yes. But the actual motions and techniques are similar.
Sorry if this comes across as an attack, it's not meant to be and it's not directed specifically at you but more to guitarists in general who complain about the GH games. I just don't get the beef with the games.

I've been playing video games a long, long time. My parents bought us a Pong system when I was 4 (1976). I love telling people that the Atari 2600 was my SECOND video game system, LOL.
Someday I will own a Funhouse pinball machine. Right now, the PS2 version of it has my attention but the real thing WILL be mine someday. I'll get a MAME arcade cabinet someday as well and have thousands of games in one place. Someday!

I think the big difference between GH and the other games you mentioned is that there is a whole generation of young people who really think this is some kind of genuine musical achievement....to finally be able to "master" a certain song. The first time I ever actually saw Guitar Hero being played was when kids started posting their performances on Youtube. I just thought they were pretty funny. I don't think kids play Madden and think they can really play NFL ball.
And once again, I don't really care what other people do. If they enjoy it, by all means, knock your fantasy rockstar self out. But I just think alot of kids ideas of music and musicianship have been skewed. That South Park episode about GH is freakin hilarious!
