As a collector and longtime Alaskan... I have to vote for Anchorage!
They just finished their NEW CONVENTION CENTER and it's a nice one!
I think it would be a great place to hold a World show and a great excuse for Numismatists to finally visit Alaska (and go fishing).

Minneapolis or Millwaukee. Or anywhere in the midwest and not on a coast. Spread out the sites some more I say.

Hmmm ... I suppose my top five in no particular order would be:

    Little Rock, AR
    St Louis, MO
    Kansas City, MO
    Des Moines, IA
    Omaha, NE

Just because either coast gets way too much attention ...

I would like to see Seattle on the map. The ANA came close in 2004 and held it in Portland.

San Diego would be another great place. So much to do and see for the family (SeaWorld, Zoo, Animal Park, Balboa Museums etc). Probably more family oriented than my previous lets go to vegas post image

ps: im not married so i still prefer vegas!

Well, you can take a camel ride and maybe learn how to herd goats in Ouagadougou. They have a real neat market. You & the family won't be bored there.

Essourira has a beautiful seafront, beach and a neat old fort. It also has a fascinating medina.

Teresina is a fascinating place to see opals, and they have some good places to hang out by the nearby river. Bring SPF 500 sunblock; it can be very hot over there. Lots of friendly folks.

Sedalia, Missouri would work because its in the center of the country.
Time it with the annual Ragtime Festival and provide free entry/workshops for those who show up in turn-of-the-century attire.

Toledo, (Maumee) Ohio. They have a convention center (the Lucas County Rec Center) that is bigger then Rhode Island (LOL), in addition to having several other rooms. They hold a model car show there annually in October that's so good I drive 12 hours to it. While it's a little right of center it's still pretty centrally located.

The Hudson Valley, NY would be nice. Not only do I live there, but it's also home to West Point, host of a mint, and in the colonial era coins were minted here, in Newburgh, which is about 20 minutes from me, if that much.

I would have to say Virginia Beach Virginia - we have a nice new Convention Center and plenty of places to stay.

Selfishly, I would have to say Oklahoma City. In reality, I realize that the odds of that happening are extremely slim. First of all, I don't think the local club infrastructure exists to handle the convention. Secondly, although I actually LIKE 100 plus degree/70 percent humidity days most people I know across the country really don't want to be here in July. Same problem with Dallas or Houston. I do like Curly's choice of Memphis (even though it has much the same problem weatherwise)
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

Pittsburgh! (That way I can attend).

Seriously, we've got a great convention center, plenty of hotels and $$ go further here. Cost of living is pretty low, so prices are very reasonable.

As evident by the responses, ANA will have to make its choices based on THEIR logic. Here is what I think. I think it is a GOOD idea to rotate five cities. I think those five cities should be near where MOST collectors are perceived to live. I think we need ONE west coast city in the group and that city should be Los Angeles. Certainly, San Francisco would be a nicer place to visit, BUT, the people who actually go to these conventions would be much greater in LA. Atlanta, Georgia would be my choice for a southern city. The midwest would need to be represented and that would be Chicago. The eastern city would be Baltimore. The fifth city would be rotated within the southwest and mountain areas with possibilities like Dallas, Denver, or maybe Pheonix. JMHO. Steveimage

Normally I would vote for Los Angeles for the "token" West Coast City, but since they are already served with 3 Long Beach shows each year (and are very unfriendly tax-wise with coin shows), perhaps Las Vegas should be the spot.

    So:

    Las Vegas
    Philly or Pittsburgh
    Chicago
Baltimore (maybe not, because of 3 EXCELLENT Batlimore shows there already) --Perhaps Dallas, Atlanta, or New Orleans instead?

It's odd that San Diego and Washington DC weren't on the list. It's *very* odd that New Orleans wasn't.

In my day job, I've been going to the twice-yearly meeting of the American Chemical Society on and off for the past 10+ years. The attendance for that meeting is almost always in the 10,000-15,000 range, and I was told that there were only a limited number of cities that could handle conventions of that size. It seems like we're going to New Orleans every few years. In fact, the meeting a few months ago was in New Orleans, and the city was "just fine" from a tourist perspective. The meeting next summer is in DC. (List of past meeting locations and future meeting locations). San Francisco and Boston traditionally have the highest attendance; Orlando traditionally has the lowest.

I found a link on the ANA site that says attendance for the ANA conventions is also in the range of 15,000? If so, I would expect that any cities that could handle the ACS could also handle the ANA.

It is inconceivable to me that one of the two ANA shows, every three years at a minimum, is not held in Washington, D.C. The ANA is a federally charterer organization. Much of its "history" is based on decisions and events made in the nation's capital. The ANA Board would be able to lobby the appropriate officials at the same time. Someplaces that have, routinely, had an ANA show over the past decade should be dropped and replaced with Washington, D.C.

I too enjoyed Pittsburgh when it was there a few years ago...just don't do Milwaukee or Chicago ever again! There's just not enough places to get away for the evening...

    I'd like:

    Nashville (my favorite pick)
    San Diego
    Washington, DC
    New Orleans
    San Juan, PR

The reason some obvious choices are missing is the way the system works. The ANA doesn't just pick a location. Instead, a local club agrees to host the event (which means a lot of work for the local club members) and invites the ANA. The participation of the local clubs keeps the cost down (lower dealer table fees, no admission fees, etc.) but means that locations without active clubs to pursue the event are never considered. I know that is the issue with Washington DC. There is no active club to support the show or even send the invite. It is probably the same with other traditional convention locations (e.g., New Orleans and Las Vegas) that don't seem to get an ANA.

It used to be that the ANA would start a club in a city to host the convention. That's how the Cincinnati Numismatic Association was started in 1930.

Since I am from the Northern California area naturally I would prefer that an ANA convention that is close by. The 2005 convention in San Francisco is probably the single best coin show that I have ever personally attended, and if all the ANA conventions are that excellent then I wish I had the opportunity to travel to all ANA conventions. I have also heard that one of the ANA conventions in a few years will be in Sacramento, which would be the most convenient place possible for me.

Besides for the places that other people have mentioned, I would think a place such as Anaheim would be an excellent choice for an ANA convention. The convention center facilities are top notch, it's accessible, and there are plenty of attractions nearby for the kids.
