    I would call David Hall and ask him if PCGS would authenticate it "very quietly", and if so, do a walkthru, then take it to a SDB.

    Next, I would create an alt on this forum and post pics!!

    Call Mr. Berke and have a consultation with him (covered by the attorney-client privilege of course). In my case I would even volunteer to do some of the legal research for Mr. Berke. Once he is hired, if good sound legal advice dictates the filing of a lawsuit, we could perhaps co-counsel [though if I was the client I would be a fool to act as my own attorneyimage].

    I took an elementary school field trip to the Denver Mint in 1964. I should have asked one of the mint workers (security was not very tight back then) if they had any 1964 Peace dollars I could exchange for a $1.00 bill.

    Imagine if I did and if the mint worker complied with my requestimage I suspect I would be very, very popular.

    There has never been a finding by anyone, other than a treasury Dept attorney, that possession of a genuine 1964-D silver dollar is illegal. The Secret Service has never been involved. Peace dollar dies were also used in early 1970 as surrogates for the Ike design to strike ten .800 fine pieces.

    The only basis for the Treasury Dept finding was a twisted interpretation of the 1947 trial relating to possession of a 1933 double eagle.

    All of the information I have been able to dig up (there is a lot of it) will be in the Whitman Guide Book of Peace Dollars 1921-1964 planned for release in November.

    Had dozens of "offers" including of photos, but every one evaporated once it came down to producing the coin or photo. After the book is published, I'll probably get more of the same.

    I believe that he also indicated that if PCGS received one as part of a submission that they would grade it and return it.

    Probably donate it to the Smithsonian Institute for the tax write-off. The SI has had two 1933 Saints for many years so the Secret Service would probably leave it alone so it should be safe for posterity which is the most important consideration.

A lot like the '33 Saint, I am sure there are a few of them around, well tucked away, that collectors with deep pockets buy and keep to themselves and a select few confidants.

    You should probably read the Peace dollar book’s material with an open mind. Among many other things, it includes a detailed flow chart from beginning of blanking through striking and melting. The chart was prepared by the Asst Coiner at Denver.

    I spoke with a man who worked at the Denver Mint when they were struck. He confirmed to me that coins were sold to employees that day, but vigorously recalled the following day. I do not know if they were all recovered.

    Another batch of unverifiable anecdotes, most of which didn’t surface until years after events of 1965. Who was the employee? When and where did they work at the Denver mint? What exactly did they say? Is there a transcript? What prompted the employee to comment? When and where did the conversation take place? (Note: I have a list of every employee who worked on the 1964-D Peace dollars at Denver, and another for Philadelphia. These lists have never been published or, to my knowledge, circulated among numismatists.)

    Also, the 1964-D dollar situation was nothing like the 1933 $20 -

    Is the employee list a result of starting with a known employee, getting another name, etc.? Was there a transcript of any conversations with the employees and if so, was the transcript a timely record of events, or years later? Respectfully, John Curlis
