you made me gamble for the Jordan image

at least it was a good pack!

  • Rodman looks like a GEM!
  • Are the last 4 paid for yet?
  • Email from Steve this morning said that 4 football were not paid for despite the fact that the user in question logged in today. There were also 3 packs of baseball that were unpaid but that was due to an oversight by that particular user.
  • Well I will take 2 of the football. Need to get them done and paid for.
  • leathtechleathtech Posts: 3,191
I would also take 2 if person does not step up!

... on a side not I think the Rodman and Stock both suffer from T/B centering making them non-gem image

  • Rodman is close enough I would probaly send it on a special. On a good day it might slide through. I have seen some alot worse grade a 10

I don't like where this is going.

I bought 4 baseball packs, paid immediately, got an email from Steve saying he got my payment and would send cards, then a PM from you saying I'm the one who hasn't paid.

I'm sure this is difficult to do a group rip, and I appreciate you taking the time to put it together, but let the record show I'm not the guy who hasn't paid.

Best of luck sorting this out.

Got my cards in this morning....

First up is the Fleer Basketball. I pretty much got most of the biggies in this set in my two packs. The Jordan regular issue is obviously off-center, the AS is really nice, and the Miller is also very nice. Call me pleasantly surprised with these two packs....

    Thanks,

It will be going off for grading on the next registry special, or my next Bulk submission.
  • Where the heck are mine? I have been patiently standing by the mailbox for 4 days now. It's hot out here.

And here are my highlights from the 79 pack... The Winfield and Munson are pretty nice and probably worthy of grading. Eck has some major fish eyes going on.

Actually looking at SMR the Jordan all-star in a PSA 10 goes for higher. Mine is probably only a 9 though.

VCP results agree with that statement.
  • What does the NCP say?

Wow some relly nice pulls so far. The Rodman and Stockton are very nice and Dr J Very nice Thurm and Jordan AS. My 4 Packs of 78 and 88 Fleer didnt bring me too much BUT I got the one card I really wanted. Pippen RC and I am loving everything about it except a bit top/bottom but its mine until I die! Best of the bunch Basketball and Baseball. BIG SHOUT OUT TO LSU, thanks for getting the rip together.

Looking for Cello packs with Bill Buckner on top

If anyone pulls a Jordan sticker please post! $10,000 - $20,000 in a PSA 10.
  • Very nice Pippen. I am starting to think that centering is an issue with 1979 Topps baseball. That was a joke.

I have been sitting here by the front door all day with the door open, glass door closed, waiting on the stupid mailman. I am starting to worry because my mailman is a collector too. He recognized the box on a set I received from a board member. He asked me what set it was. I told him 1991 Donruss baseball.

  • Received my 5 packs of 1979 topps baseball and 2 packs of 88/89 basketball

This was the first card I saw in the first pack I opened:

    image

Other than the Ozzy and a few other cards, the 1979s were well centered. I really didn't get any other big name stars, but I will probably submit 5-10 lower population commons and these 6 the next time the $5 modern special is available:

    The basketball are up next
  • I can't figure out why the pictures of my 1979s are so small. Anyway, moving on...in the 2 packs of basketball, I got a Michael Jordan all-star and a Reggie Miller, but both are way off center top to bottom. Also off center were a Larry Bird sticker, Patrick Ewing, and Akeem Olajuwon. The only nice looking star was Robert Parish.
  • My mailman finally arrived! I could not contain my excitement until I saw this:

It's insured. Send a picture of that to steve. Then file the PO claim
  • When I opened the box, the victims appeared to be unharmed.

  • In the middle of my childhood Christmas morning hurry to open my present, I dropped two of the 1979 packs on the floor. Without doing my normal pre-pack ripping routine, I decided to go ahead and open the two packs that tried to commit suicide. Only opened one and right in the middle of the pack was this beauty. If the scan looks funny, it is because the card went straight to a penny sleeve and CSI:

    image
  • Yes, that is a tiny stain right beside Ryan's shoulder but still a beauty. Didn't notice it until I looked at the scan.
  • Absolutely nothing from the football, although they were all well centered with sharp corners. Not too much out of the rest of the 79s either. A few stars in the 9ish range. Included the Wills because of the variation and the Picciolo for thenavarro.

    image
  • The basketball was fun. Too bad they all had centering issues. The Rodman looks really nice though.

My 79 Baseball came up snake eyes, I did buy a 1977 Baseball wax for a kicker. I may rip it after a few cold ones tonight.
  • I have a feeling that there is a well centered Ozzie rookie waiting on someone. All my 79s had great centering compared to what they usually look like. I did have a few miscut ones. The Jordan's I pulled are probably all PSA 9 OC's. The star sticker of course had wax on the back but I have already introduced that card to pantyhose.

I was 0 for 11 with my packs. Nothing of real note. I'll look up later on to see if I have any commons that are low pop. Had a really nice checklist. NO ROB PICCIOLO's. I just knew I'd get some of those. LSU, any chance you want to get rid of your Picciolo? I did get a nice display box out of it though. I asked Steve if I could have the box they came in and he sent it to me. 79 was the first year I began collecting so I wanted the box for sentimental reasons.
    Buying US Presidential autographs
  • Dont think Rob has a shot at a PSA 10 so you can have him. All I wanted was a Dale Murphy and did not get one.

Nothing of note at all out of my 2 79 packs. Many were well centered but maybe 1-2 submittable potential 10's - but really, who cares.

I swear our boxes must have been on the same truck..

    image
  • I get the basketball packs with the bad centering.

    image
  • baseball had nothing really. Did have a Tiant sighting though..

    image
  • Should we send our photos to Steve? He securely wraps the packs but a lot of mine had dinged corners.
  • My packs were fine. It does appear they may have been in the same area of the same truck which is possible due to the destinations and something fell on them. Only real thing wrong with my cards was the centering on the Basketball. That Rodman and Stockton are both 10s if not for the centering.

Might slide that Hakeem in on a bulk sub just to give it a shot. Pulled a Dominique All-Star that very nice too.
  • My basketball ones were great too accept for the centering on one pack. It just happened to be the pack with the friggin Jordan in it though.

The Rose and Smith appear to have a tilt. I got the Smith in the first pack. Rose was the last card in the last pack. I noticed the gum didn't stick to the cards and I was able to wipe the white sugar off the back and doesn't appear to leave a stain. Got a couple of low pops too. I ordered 2 1978 packs to go with my order but nothing of note in those.

Tough luck on those Jordans. Centering looks off on all of them and the sticker appears to have some sort of minor diamond cut going on. That Rodman is not half bad though.

Got a McCovey and Palmer that were nice... should both pull 9's. Only other two noteables were Seaver and Yastrzemski that are 9 quality but a bit oc left to right. Fun to rip some packs from 1979 for the first time since.... well, 1979.
I'm up for another one whenever it gets set up!
  • My mailman rang the bell and handed me the box..."didnt wanna shove this in the mailbox" he's a nice guy.

i got 8 79' topps packs. I waited until just a few minutes ago to rip them. (2) of them were already opened image not sealed at all, so i was worried, but one had a Joe Morgan and the other had a Pete Rose (both off center of course) the gum was DELICIOUS by the way. yum. here are the "highlights" quite a few of the card had damage to them (border damage) no big deal, I spend more on lottery tickets lol.
