When would you stop for Sliver prices

When would you stop buying Silver or Gold at? Both had a nice jump for the past 2 days. For me, I'll buy one more time when it goes south of 16 in this month. I'm staying cool even though silver is volatile.

<< <i>Gold and silver have many similarities, but they are also different in many ways. One big difference is their volatility. If owning gold is like flying in a 747, then owning silver is like flying in an F-15. With silver one needs to be prepared for heart-stopping reversals and zigs and zags that are all but unheard of in gold. >>

I thought your post title was for something strange. SLIVER PRICES. I've had slivers and they weren't worth anything but pain.

    Sliver. image

That reminds me of a roll of silver halves (Frankies and '64 Hairyheads) I owned as a kid. I wrote "SILVER" on the roll to remind myself that these weren't the cheap clad Kennedys. But I had difficulty writing on the roll, and when I looked at it again months later, it looked more like "JIDER."

I got some in my butt once trying to launch off a dock (slipping of course and landing posterior) into the lake and boy did it hurt to extract that precious commodity!

sometimes search slivers on ebay...or glad and you can pick stuff up fo a song
  • Carl...I thought I was observant, but damn, you took me to the woodshed. I didnt notice it was spelled 'sliver' until I read your post. Good catch, I thought it DID say 'silver'! Though, I am on some serious meds, as I just had surgery, AGAIN. I still don't think I woulda caught that stone sober!

As far as the OP's question goes....I am still buying up to $20, maybe an extra half buck or so on top of that. When silver was trying to touch $21, Feb-early March, I saw it hitting $25-$30 sometime this summer. The natural retreat to $16 and change (it HAD to make a serious thump downwards, it did, indeed, jump) allowed me to get some at a lower spot price than I thought, as I saw it hit a low of $17 and a couple cents.

Edited due to my post going towards a political rant, ONLY as reasons why I thought silver WILL hit that mark of $25-$30...I have to admit, youze guyz missed a pretty impressive rant, that wound up being rather long, but............I'll just leave it at... the economy is in big trouble, as it was back in the late '70's, and look what metals did then. In 2008, and not in my lifetime (46, I got 30 some...(yeah, right)....years left), silver wont hit $50 (unless a couple guys have a ton of money and get drunk, and decide to do what the Hunt bro's did), but silver's value WILL continue to go north, with dips, its inevitable. Expect numbers you didn't think you'd see. Buying up to $20, or so, selling at near $30 by the end of summer (remember, in New England, we have 'Indian Summer' that stretches to late Sept/early Oct), buy on the next dip, do it all over again. Gonna hit some nice highs, as well as return some nice profits. I gots my reasons, but....and I'll have to leave it at that....image

No set prices as prices are only part of the equation.

I'll stop buying it when this bull run is finally over. When (not if) Ag gets to $50 and corrects to $35-$40 I'll buy some back. The same will be true at $100/oz.

  • BTW.....due to how I have to lay in bed while recuperating, I am a one-hander (get your minds out of the gutter).... I have to do as the Doc says, or go to a rehabilitation hospital an listen to Nurse Ratchett, with tubes, bags, pans....... BRRRRRRRRR, too ugly to even think about, so I follow orders to a 'T', as this last surgery was due to my NOT following his orders to a 'T'. I'm close to 40 wpm (one or 2 mis-keys, I'll admit), with 2 hands, so, all my fingers are are going on my one hand, like a flesh-colored, 5 tentacled, small pentopuss (can't call it an octopus), and I'm a hittin' lots o' extra keys. Oh, then there's the med's I'm on (NEVER consume alcohol while on prescription meds, specifically percocet, oxycontin and dilaudid...unless you REALLY WANT to meet up with Alice, the wild and ctazy guy the MadHatter, and the rest....image ) For instance, after I correct the mis-keys, it took me 20 mins to get this ready for posting...LOL

I'm a buyer of silver until the FED can raise rates (probably middle of next year, if then), then I'll sell out before the short drop and buy back. But I think that over the next 20 years, silver will be one of the best investments ever.

Hey if it's good enough for Warren Buffet, it's good enough for me.

Sold a fair amount @$17 on the way up, bought little around the brief high, and got into some serious buying when it went back down into the same range I sold.

Dollar cost averaged, I'm still under $10.00, but I don't want to cash my chips in for paper quite yet. Pretty much play money anyway.

Edited to add the answer to the OP - probably never, but at the higher levels I'd want to cash in profits a little more carefully, and quicker.

Laugh about sliver , but just wait until you get piles. image
  • If sliver gets to $100 an ounce, I'll sell it all and call it a day.
  • Roadrunner, I, myself, am very bullish on silver. Regardless of the why, when do you anticipate $50 oz? Years from now, or? .....just curious.

I'm a buyer at all times, low to high, doesn't matter. I'm also a seller at all times, low to high, and it does matter!

Gotta believe that it's rising or at least LIFO, (last in first out). That way I don't have much risk in the market.
