I think I may have had my hands around a few of these slabs at the Baltimore ANA in the late 80's. Fella from Kansas City forgot his name owned them. Monsters then, and they don't seem any worse for wear.......
Question - In that generation holder, I have never seen a coin graded higher than MS 66. How did they manage to get higher grades than that? I assume it is the pedigree of the coin(s)?

It is possible that the coins are really, really good, isn't it?
Not impressed. I don't see a single sticker on those coins.

I assume that is fun with photoshop. If you really have access to the person who knows the person who has seen those coins, get us full pictures, obverse and reverse on all of them.
Very cool coins! I really would like to see them in more detail.

This is not Photoshop. It is a page from a marketing pamphlet, and the coins and images are legit. Whether any of these are still in these holders or not, I do not know. 2 were auctioned at Goldberg's about 5 years ago (the 69 BN and 66 RB Wreath) - I have never seen the others in the coin.

I've also wondered if these coins would grade as high if resubmitted. Irregardless, they are finest known and that's really all that matters.
I'm pretty sure Jay acquired them individually. He used to run large multipage glossy insert ads in CoinWorld back in the early '90's. In addition to these large cents, he had a number of other finest known and/or famous coins in inventory, including a 1913 Liberty nickel, a Brasher doubloon, and Jack Lee's complete Walking Liberty Half set.
Every one of those coins in the image were Ted Naftzger's coins. Parrino acquired them after Naftzger sold virtually all of his Early Date Large Cents to Eric Streiner in 1991/1992 and gave Parrino "first shot".

<< <i>The Chain Ameri. looks like the weak link. Probably needs to be upgraded ASAP.
Agreed. These sorts of 'space-fillers' bring the rest of the set down IMO.
<< <i>I'd rather start my set with G coins than knock-off Chinese slabs but to each their own. >>
Is this a joke?
BTW that MS69 is the coin I listed last week in the "If the genie offered you one coin..." thread. --Jerry
I was just looking at a nice starter set of Roosies....... not quite the same.

Phew!
Can you imagine the look on the PCGS graders' faces if this whole pile of coins was submitted for grading raw?
<< <i>Wow,

I like these better!
<< <i>That's nice for the first year. Keep going. >>
I guess you have to start somewhere. Might as well get those pesky 93's out of the way and get on to the important coins.
What a group.

Wow!

I knew it would happen.
Not a bad starter collection!
...one for each!

Jay Parrino?
Interestingly, he still sells collectibles but appears to be out of coins.

I'll just take one of those, thank you. I'm not greedy.

But do you think the 69 is a shot 70?
Very cool coins! I really would like to see them in more detail.

I take it, then, that you haven't been in RYK's new kitchen?

I wish we could see close ups of all of them (or any of them).

Tom - These coins are the real deal. Most long time collectors are aware of them, but images seem to be few and far between.

I almost forgot about Parrino's "The Mint." Were these attributable to a single collection at the time, or were these "merely inventory?"
